BEWARE THE WAD!

The big world premiere of "Annihilate All Humans!" at the beginning of last month went off without a hitch! Since it was only the second in-theater Mihmiverse premiere since the pandemic hit, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm was excited that attendance was markedly higher than last year—a trend he hopes continues going forward! Despite an entirely unexpected torrential downpour before the festivities began, the audience seemed to greatly enjoy the new movie and reviews have been almost universally positive!

Mr. Mihm has since focused his energies on his NEXT project, "The Wad: The True Story Behind the Phantom Lake County Chewing Gum Disaster!" Principal photography of the faux-documentary has officially begun and, as you can see from the behind-the-scenes photo below, a VERY SPECIAL guest star was on hand to film her part in the film!

In the new movie, Shannon McDonough reprises her signature role of Julie Ann Saint Marie-Jackson, a character last heard (but not seen) in 2010's "Destination: Outer Space!" Ms. McDonough has starred in several Mihmiverse favorites, from her first appearance in 2007's "It Came From Another World!" through the most popular of Mr. Mihm's catalog, "The Giant Spider!"

It's great to see Ms. McDonough back in action and we can't wait to see what's in store for her iconic character. Granted, since it was canonically established in "Destination: Outer Space" that Julie Ann Saint Marie-Jackson spent her adult life cleaning the Atomic Waste out of Phantom Lake, the photo above gives us a pretty good idea of where she is and why!

Lastly, let us not forget to mention that we can clearly see that James Norgard is back yet again as Dr. Gabriel to "do some science" in the new film. In addition to Mr. Norgard's well-loved character, the cast is rounded out by some very familiar faces reprising their popular roles, including Mike Cook as Dr. Edwards, Mark Haider as General Castle, Michael Kaiser as Sheriff Hayes, Thom Gladhill as Deputy O'Donnell, Elliott Mihm as Daniel (Danny) Johnson, and even writer/director Christopher R. Mihm returns as Mayor Boland!

Principal photography is scheduled to continue for the next several months and, as always, when we learn more about this new movie, we will happily let you know! Stay tuned!

In writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's first faux-documentary, KPHL Channel 6 Nightly News anchor Daniel Johnson (Elliott Mihm) hosts a "look back" at one of the most shocking events ever to transpire in Mihmiverse history. Through interviews with survivors and major players involved in the crisis, re-enactments, and never-before-seen archival footage, Mr. Johnson presents the complete and unabridged story of the wad of chewing gum that mutated, became sentient, grew to gargantuan proportions, and threatened the lives of every man, woman, and child in Phantom Lake County!

Don't forget! The Mihmiverse is only made possible by contributor credits, and we need all the help we can get! For each $20.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name* of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film and a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution!

IMPORTANT! Physical media copies of the finished film are NOT automatically included with a basic contribution. If you would like to be guaranteed a DVD or Blu-Ray of the film when it is released, you MUST order it separately (with the purchase of at least one credit)!

Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

LAST CHANCE TO HELP TEAM MIHM GET TO THE YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES!

Alice Mihm—whose on-screen work is well known to every true Mihmivite—is currently striving to represent the United States in the sport of curling at the upcoming 2024 Youth Olympic Games!

Curling is a unique ice sport that has become such a part of the "greater Mihmiverse" that the films of Christopher R. Mihm even has its own official curling team, The Rock Monsters, the roster of which has, at one time or another, included recognizable Mihmiverse names & faces, including Christopher R. Mihm, the first lady of the 'verse, Stephanie Mihm, Mark "General Castle" Haider, "monster-of-all-trades" Michael Kaiser, David "Butch" Mihm, Elliott "Danny Johnson" Mihm, and the most talented of the 'verse-related curlers, Alice "Evelyn Johnson" Mihm!

Alice's team, Team BAAD News, will be participating in the Youth Olympic Trials in Denver, CO during the first full week of September and, should they win, will go on to compete as Team USA in the Youth Olympic Games in South Korea in February of 2024! In preparation for the trials, the team has been practicing extensively and competed in several curling tournaments (called "bonspiels"). The Youth Olympic games are restricted to teenagers ranging in age from 13 to 17 and is quite literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so the team has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to help cover all the costs associated with such an undertaking.

The team members and their families would be eternally grateful and appreciate any and all support you, the always generous fans of the Mihmiverse, are willing to lend toward helping Team BAAD News reach its goals! Mihmiverse fans are the best in the world, and this is a great opportunity to prove it by helping Alice and her team go for the gold!

With the trials taking place a week from the publication of this newsletter, we encourage everyone to contribute to the team's efforts before it's too late! Visit their GoFundMe page by going HERE!

BLAST FROM THE PAST
In this new column, we'll be digging through old issues of the Mihmiverse Monthly and Phantom Lake Almanac (which was the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a LOT to choose from!

This month, we return to January 2016 when writer/director Christopher R. Mihm announced that the Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for "The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!" had reached its initial goal and was seeking to achieve all of its "stretch" goals—which it eventually did! Thanks to the generous donations of over 100 people, the musical theater adaption of the first Mihmiverse film debuted the following July!

"The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!" is coming!

Writer/director Christopher R. Mihm and composer/lyricist Adam Boll have completed their work on the musical stage adaptation of the first Mihmiverse film—and they are ready to bring it to the masses! To help the play go from just an idea to a full-blown reality, the pair started a Kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funds to mount the first-ever live production!

The minimum goal of the crowd funding campaign is $2,500 and, with just days to go in 2015, it was reached, thus guaranteeing the play will be held SOMEWHERE! However, just because the campaign achieved its primary goal, it doesn't mean there isn't more to be done!

The secondary goal of $6,000 would make it possible to perform the show at the historic Mabel Tainter Center in Menomonie, WI (located roughly an hour outside of Minneapolis/St. Paul). The ultimate goal, however, is to reach $12,000, which will allow the production to debut at the Mabel Tainter Center AS WELL AS record and release a DVD of the show and an original cast recording!

If you're a fan of the original "The Monster of Phantom Lake," and, like most folks, imagine it can only be enhanced by adding singing and dancing, please consider contributing to the Kickstarter campaign and help make it happen!

If you're still not convinced, check out the video below and then visit Kickstarter!

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Blob (1958)
Directed by Irvin Yeaworth
Starring Steve McQueen and Aneta Corsaut

In one of the best known sci-fi/horror films of the 1950s, a terrifying hunk of space gelatin crash lands on Earth within a meteorite and instantly begins consuming the denizens of small town U.S.A. "The Blob" follows a teenage "gang of ne'er-do-wells" led by a young Steve McQueen (billed as Steven McQueen in his first lead role), as they discover the threat posed by the invader and try to warn the townsfolk of the impending danger. Sadly, no one will listen as people continue to disappear and the blob grows ever bigger. In one of the most iconic scenes from the "drive-in cinema" era, the otherworldly ooze terrorizes the local movie house as the unstoppable substance chases moviegoers out into the street before squeezing through the theater's doorways. Eventually, the blob traps people inside the local diner and the local authorities must figure out a way to stop it before it consumes the entire planet (or something equally sinister)! "The Blob" is, by far, one of the best science fiction films of the 1950s. Everything from the acting, directing and special effects to the truly disturbing and often frightening story are top notch. If you're looking for a way to introduce new people to the wonders of cheesy 1950s cinema, this film is a safe place to start! I heartily recommend it!

STREAM THE MIHMIVERSE
If you're like most people these days, you tend to stream your favorite TV shows and movies, particularly because it's way more convenient and you have access to them in more places! Did you know there are now several places to stream the entire Mihmiverse catalog?

From the movie that started it all, "The Monster of Phantom Lake," to its musical offshoot, "The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!," and "Annihilate All Humans!," everything you need to "visit" the denizens of Phantom Lake County is available for your streaming pleasure!

The ENTIRE filmography of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (including "Annihilate All Humans!") is available through the Mihmiverse Vimeo VOD portal!

Every film is presented using the same ultra high-quality renders used for the official Blu-Ray releases and actually feeds video content to the Drive-in Monsters Roku channel. Most importantly, the Mihmiverse Vimeo VOD portal is the ONLY PLACE to legally own the films digitally!

Retro-style monster movies from the wild & weird imagination of cult filmmaker Christopher R. Mihm! From giant, rampaging spiders to alien invasions and bug-eyed horrors, the Drive-in Monsters channel includes the entire catalog of Mr. Mihm's films, exclusive extras, and long lost special features originally released on currently out-of-print physical media! Explore the worldwide underground cult phenomenon known as the "Mihmiverse" and enjoy the rebirth of the golden age of "drive-in cinema" with the Drive-in Monsters channel!

As of right now, the channel is free... but, that most likely will not last forever! So make sure to enjoy the Drive-in Monsters Roku channel while it's still completely free of charge!

Most of the films of the Mihmiverse are available on Amazon Video. Sadly, as Amazon continues to revise and rewrite its policies, they have downgraded the entire Mihmiverse catalog from "available with Prime" to rental only. Though this wasn't entirely unexpected—given the way the service has been slowly ridding itself of the films of Christopher R. Mihm—we CANNOT guarantee they will still be there on any given day! So, if Amazon is your preferred place to watch the Mihmiverse, enjoy it while it lasts!

NOTE: Amazon has barred writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (and MANY other independent filmmakers) from adding any new films to their service. As far as we have been able to figure out, the service is taking a more "curated" approach to its catalog and, unfortunately, does not have any more room for the cheesy goodness of the Mihmiverse! Therefore, if you're interested in watching the newest films of the Mihmiverse, we highly recommend checking out the Mihmiverse Roku channel, Drive-in Monsters!
