SEE THE WAD TRAILER BEFORE ANYONE ELSE!

Are you ready to spend all day watching cheesy movies FOR FREE?

Let's hope so, because on Saturday, May 25th (over Memorial Day weekend), the Time Community Theater in Oshkosh, WI is excited to bring you Schlock the Block 2: The Bride of Schlock!, a day's worth of B-movie blocks which will conclude with writer/director Christopher R. Mihm presenting a screening of his contribution to the "psycho-biddy" genre, "Queen of Snakes," followed by the world premiere of the official trailer of the next great Mihmiverse movie, "The Wad: The True Story Behind the Phantom Lake County Chewing Gum Disaster!"

Join us and be one of the first people to catch a glimpse of "The Wad!" Also, did we mention this event is 100% FREE!?

Be there!

The Time Community Theater is located at 445 North Main Street in Oshkosh, Wisconsin!

ALSO, it should be noted that the cool, Warhol-inspired "Queen of Snakes" polyptych pictured above is now available as a T-shirt from the Saint Euphoria TeePublic store! The idea for the design came from the queen herself, Stephanie Mihm, and was created by her husband, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm!

WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE MIHMIVERSE?

Now that writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's 2024 film, "The Wad: The True Story Behind the Phantom Lake County Chewing Gum Disaster," is complete, he's busy spending his time finishing the authoring process of the film's DVD and Blu-Ray.

Given the nature of this particular project, Mr. Mihm has determined that "The Wad" is "mainstream" enough to be submitted to film festivals! Thanks to monetary donations from a handful of fans and supporters (which were necessary because almost every film festival requires filmmakers to pay an entry fee to even have their work looked at!), the movie has already been submitted to over 30 festivals. Fingers crossed it'll get into all of them!

Aside from getting things ready for the release of "The Wad," pre-production of the NEXT Mihmiverse masterpiece, "Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires," is well underway! In fact, shortly after the publication of this month's newsletter, principal photography is scheduled to begin, with actors Alice Mihm, Elizabeth Kaiser, and newcomer Jackie Baker set to film their first scenes as the titular "three bad girls!"

In "Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires," which writer/director Christopher R. Mihm refers to as an ode to "teensploitation" films of the 1950s and the cinematic oeuvre of the Coen Brothers, three female juvenile delinquents obtain a firearm and, just for the thrill of it, start robbing the fine folks of New Berlin. Unfortunately, their crime spree takes an unexpected turn after they mug and nearly murder the gambling-addicted pastor of the local church—who turns out to be an immortal, blood-sucking creature of the night! Hijinks ensue when the vampiric padre hires a pair of hitmen to help him retrieve his stolen cash and seek revenge against the three bad girls responsible!

The Mihmiverse is only made possible by contributions from fans like you. And, with the gears of this new project grinding into motion, now is the best time to contribute to the film! For each $20.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name* of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film and a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution!

IMPORTANT! Physical media copies of the finished film are NOT automatically included with a basic contribution. If you would like to be guaranteed a DVD or Blu-Ray of the film when it is released, you MUST order it separately (with the purchase of at least one credit)!

Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

THE TRIVIA CORNER
Could it be... Aliens?

Yes, it could... and often was... in the sci-fi films of the 1950s. This month we're saluting these strange visitors from another planet—but unlike Superman, they they didn't come here to fight for truth, justice, and the American Way.

List One: Titles and release years. List Two: Plots and cast members. Match them up correctly, and earn your interplanetary green card!

1. "It Came From Outer Space" (1953)
2. "Killers From Space" (1954)
3. "The Stranger From Venus" (1954)
4. "Devil Girl From Mars" (1954)
5. "Invisible Invaders" (1959)
6. "The Man from Planet X" (1959)

A. An alien arrives in Great Britain and teams up with an American Woman to warn mankind about nuclear Weapons. Patricia Neal co-stars.
B. A spaceship crashes in the Arizona desert, and the townsfolk start acting strangely. The cast includes Richard Carlson and Russell ("The Professor") Johnson.
C. They came from the Moon to occupy the bodies of dead humans. Sci-Fi legend John Agar leads the cast.
D. A mysterious alien appears on the moors of a remote Scottish Island. Is he dangerous? It's up to a professor, his daughter and a former student to find out.
E. An atomic scientist claims he was abducted by aliens after a plane crash. Peter Graves stars... but no, he wasn't flying the airplane.
F. She came from another planet with a ray gun and a robot, looking for men to use as breeding stock—not exactly a romantic film.

BLAST FROM THE PAST
In this new column, we'll be digging through old Mihmiverse-related news and issues of the Mihmiverse Monthly and Phantom Lake Almanac (the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a LOT to choose from!

This month, we go back to March 2011 for a column entitled Meet the Associate Producers. The interview subject was Peter K. Flynn, a man who has been a steadfast fan and supporter of the Mihmiverse for most of its existence! Mr. Flynn played a direct role in helping produce the films of Christopher R. Mihm in that he personally filmed the "green screen" background footage seen in "The Giant Spider" when the main characters escape the title creature in a motorcycle and sidecar! He's also now co-owner & operator of Flynn Brothers Studios, a film, video, photo, and media studio located in the Miramar area of San Diego, California!

This month, we interview Peter Flynn, who, in keeping with the retro theme, submitted a photo taken on genuine old-stock Polaroid film!

Peter Flynn and family
Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse!
Hi. My name is Peter Flynn, and I am a computer programmer and hobbyist filmmaker living in San Diego. Regrettably, I missed out on the Saturday matinee B-movie experience as a young child, but I did get to see movies such as "Fantastic Voyage" and "2001: A Space Odyssey" during their initial theater runs. Let me tell you, it was mind blowing for a 6- or 7-year-old. Now, with the Mihmiverse, I can relive that other childhood I didn't quite have.

When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm?
I was looking though "personalized" recommendations on Netflix when "It Came From Another World!" caught my eye. I wasn't quite sure what to make of the film's description so I ordered it. My first reaction while viewing the DVD was, "Hey, I could do that!," followed by, "I wish I had done that," and by the end of the movie, "Where can I find more?!"

Which of the five released films is your favorite and why?
"It Came from Another World!" because it was my first and because of Deanne McDonald (Elizabeth) and her owls. (A family of owls lives in my chimney.) Also, I saw some of "The Blob" on TV when about 6 so "scary things from meteorites" has remained one of my fundamental fears to this day.

You recently became an associate producer of "Attack of the Moon Zombies." Why?
A) To see my name up in lights, or at least to be peripherally connected with something I am proud to be a associated with.
B) To supply a small bit of encouragement for what I personally know to be a difficult yet rewarding compulsion, er, hobby.
C) To assist in getting "Attack of the Moon Zombies" made so I can see it!
CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Flaming Teen-Age (1956)
Directed by Irvin Yeaworth
Starring Noel Reyburn and Ethel Barrett

Young Fred finds himself disillusioned by his small-town existence running the candy store he inherited from his father. Bored, he takes to drinking. After repeatedly disappointing his girlfriend and family with his lack of interest in his work and rural life, Fred sells the store and moves to the big city. Since this film is of the "evils of juvenile delinquency" genre, the impressionable main character falls into "secular evil" after "secular evil," including (but not limited to) loose women, harder alcohol, gambling, musical theater (really!), and questionable business decisions. His hometown girl leaves him as his vices and debts eventually catch up and he's forced into committing crimes, begging on the street, and getting hooked on heroin. Finally, he's thrown in prison after being arrested for doing something that isn't clearly explained, but is nonetheless against the law. Incarcerated and unable to obtain the drugs his body craves, Fred goes through painful withdrawals. Luckily, and not-so-surprisingly given the type of movie this is, he hears a sermon through the bars of his cell, finds Jesus, cleans up his life, and, once he's served his debt to society, becomes a preacher and motivational speaker. "The Flaming Teen-Age" was originally shot in 1945, but not released until 1956 after additional footage was filmed and added into the narrative. The script is reportedly based on the life of a man named Fred Garland and, according to an opening title crawl, was only made possible by Mr. Garland's "many friends" and the New York Department of Correction. Overall, the story is a downward spiral of one bad (and often out-of-left-field) decision after the next. Given that it was directed by the man who made the B-movie classic "The Blob," it's shocking how bad this movie really is! Happily though, it's not "bad bad" as opposed to being so bad it's GREAT! I highly recommended it if this sounds like the kind of thing you might be into—or at least the kind of thing you might find ludicrous and unintentionally hilarious like I did!

STREAM THE MIHMIVERSE
If you're like most people these days, you tend to stream your favorite TV shows and movies, particularly because it's way more convenient and you have access to them in more places! Did you know there are now several places to stream the entire Mihmiverse catalog?

From the movie that started it all, "The Monster of Phantom Lake," to its musical offshoot, "The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!," and the most recent release, "Annihilate All Humans!," everything you need to "visit" the denizens of Phantom Lake County is available for your streaming pleasure!

The ENTIRE filmography of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (including "Annihilate All Humans!") is available through the Mihmiverse Vimeo VOD portal!

Every film is presented using the same ultra high-quality renders used for the official Blu-Ray releases and actually feeds video content to the Drive-in Monsters Roku channel. Most importantly, the Mihmiverse Vimeo VOD portal is the ONLY PLACE to legally own the films digitally!

Retro-style monster movies from the wild & weird imagination of cult filmmaker Christopher R. Mihm! From giant, rampaging spiders to alien invasions and bug-eyed horrors, the Drive-in Monsters channel includes the entire catalog of Mr. Mihm's films, exclusive extras, and long lost special features originally released on currently out-of-print physical media! Explore the worldwide underground cult phenomenon known as the "Mihmiverse" and enjoy the rebirth of the golden age of "drive-in cinema" with the Drive-in Monsters channel!

As of right now, the channel is free... but that, most likely, will not last forever! So make sure to enjoy the Drive-in Monsters Roku channel while it's still completely free of charge!

Most of the films of the Mihmiverse are available on Amazon Video. Sadly, as Amazon continues to revise and rewrite its policies, they have downgraded the entire Mihmiverse catalog from "available with Prime" to rental only. Though this wasn't entirely unexpected—given the way the service has been slowly ridding itself of the films of Christopher R. Mihm—we CANNOT guarantee they will still be there on any given day! So, if Amazon is your preferred place to watch the Mihmiverse, enjoy it while it lasts!

NOTE: Amazon has barred writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (and MANY other independent filmmakers) from adding any new films to their service. As far as we have been able to figure out, the service is taking a more "curated" approach to its catalog and, unfortunately, does not have any more room for the cheesy goodness of the Mihmiverse! Therefore, if you're interested in watching the newest films of the Mihmiverse, we highly recommend checking out the Mihmiverse Roku channel, Drive-in Monsters!
