CURRENT NEWS
The most unique Mihmiverse film ever, "The Wad: The True Story Behind the Phantom Lake County Chewing Gum Disaster," is coming!

The film is now 100% complete, the DVD & Blu-Ray are in the process of being manufactured, the film has been submitted to numerous film festivals, and the trailer has been unleashed upon the world (see below!), writer/director Christopher R. Mihm is busy getting everything together for the film's world premiere this coming August!

The date of the big event is set for Wednesday, August 21st, and will once again take place at the Heights Theater in Columbia Heights, MN!

Advance tickets will go on sale later this month and, like the 2022 premiere of "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Day the Earth Abruptly Almost Ended," there are currently no health-related restrictions expected for this year's event! To ensure you don't miss out on the exact date advance tickets go on sale, make sure to frequently check the news feed at SaintEuphoria.com!

The film's trailer recently debuted at the Time Community Theater in Oshkosh, WI as the climax of Schlock the Block II: Bride of Schlock, a day-long marathon of cheesy movies that included the 2019 Mihmiverse masterpiece, "Queen of Snakes!"

THREE BAD GIRLS WHO FIND A GUN AND BECOME VAMPIRES!

Moving forward beyond his soon-to-be-released Mihmiverse mockumentary, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm has kept himself busy filming his 2025 movie, "Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires!" In fact, as of the publication of this newsletter, cast & crew have already shot over HALF the script!

We're happy to announce that we've received the first still from the new film! In the image, we see actor Alice Mihm playing an unquestionably different character than we're used to seeing her inhabit—made especially obvious by the glasses she's wearing, (in the Mihmiverse, all it takes to be a different character is a different set of eyewear!), AND by the fact she's holding the (presumably) titular firearm! Check it out below!

Since we've now seen at least one "bad girl" holding a pistol, we hope that at some point, given the film's exaggerated, on-the-nose title, we get to see an image of SOMEONE with sharp vampire teeth!

According to Mr. Mihm, a large portion of the film's story takes place outside so, weather permitting, principal photography of "Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires" is slated to continue through the next month or two!

In "Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires," which writer/director Christopher R. Mihm refers to as an ode to "teensploitation" films of the 1950s and the cinematic oeuvre of the Coen Brothers, three female juvenile delinquents obtain a firearm and, just for the thrill of it, start robbing the fine folks of New Berlin. Unfortunately, their crime spree takes an unexpected turn after they mug and nearly murder the gambling-addicted pastor of the local church—who turns out to be an immortal, blood-sucking creature of the night! Hijinks ensue when the vampiric padre hires a pair of hitmen to help him retrieve his stolen cash and seek revenge against the three bad girls responsible!

The Mihmiverse is only made possible by contributions from fans like you. And, with the gears of this new project grinding into motion, now is the best time to contribute to the film! For each $20.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name* of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film and a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution!

IMPORTANT! Physical media copies of the finished film are NOT automatically included with a basic contribution. If you would like to be guaranteed a DVD or Blu-Ray of the film when it is released, you MUST order it separately (with the purchase of at least one credit)!

Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

THE TRIVIA CORNER
This Quiz SUCKS (Blood)!

IMDb lists literally hundreds of films about vampires, and more than half of them have the word "Dracula" in the title. I quickly realized that writing a Dracula-themed quiz would be difficult at best... and trying to get it right would probably drive you "batty." With that in mind, I decided to slice the cheese down (with a wooden stake) to vampire films that are "Dracula-Free."

1. "Blood of the Vampire" (1958)
2. "Blood & Roses" (1960)
3. "The Kiss of the Vampire" (1963)
4. "The Last Man on Earth" (1964)
5. "The Fearless Vampire Killers" (1967)
6. "The Vampire Lovers" (1970)

A. A researcher and his assistant go on a mission Transylvania to look for vampires. They find more than they bargained for, and end up trying to save a damsel in distress. Roman Polanski wrote, directed and starred in the film, along with his wife, the Ill-fated Charles Manson victim, Sharon Tate.
B. In 1870s Transylvania, a scientist is killed by villagers who believe he's a vampire. He's not, and his horribly disfigured henchman is out to avenge his death.
C. A woman who is jealous of her friend's engagement, visits the tomb of a female vampire ancestor, who promptly possesses her and leads her to a killing spree—but is it all a dream?
D. Gerald and Marianne's car breaks down in a remote village, and while its being repaired, they're invited to stay at a nearby castle. Unfortunately, the castle is home to a cult of vampires.
E. In 18th century Germany, the seductive vampire Carmilla and her family are terrorizing the countryside. It's up to General von Spielsdorf (played by Peter Cushing) to figure things out and put a stop to their bloody reign of terror.
F. When a disease turns people into zombies, a survivor (played by Vincent Price), becomes a vampire hunter to find a cure. Will he succeed, go insane, or both?

BLAST FROM THE PAST
In this new column, we'll be digging through old Mihmiverse-related news and issues of the Mihmiverse Monthly and Phantom Lake Almanac (the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a LOT to choose from!

This month, we go back to April 2019 for a column entitled The Retro-Spective in which the late Mihmiverse super-fan, Michael Cross, discusses classic mid-20th-century cinema, breaks down the many tropes inherent in those films, and links them all back to the films of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm.

Man Explores Space!

Welcome once again to The Retro-Spective! I hope you are enjoying it each month. This month, we are going to talk about man venturing out to explore among the stars. This is the setting of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's film, "Destination: Outer Space," and contains a story clearly inspired by several sci-fi movies of the era of "drive-in cinema." The following is my attempt to dig a little deeper into this specific genre. Let take a look...

Maybe the best "man in space" movie of the '50s is "Forbidden Planet." Released in 1956, this film boasts a writing credit for William Shakespeare. The story is (very) loosely based on Shakespeare's "The Tempest." A great story backed with state-of-the-art special effects made this film stand out from the pack and it has now gained status as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time. It also gave us the first appearance of Robbie the Robot. Robbie would go on to appear in many other films and TV shows and was the basis of the robot in "Lost in Space." Fun fact: the Walt Disney Company was called in to provide the special effects of the "id" monster.

"Forbidden Planet" (1956)

While "Forbidden Planet" may be considered the best, the era gave us many other examples that fit the subject of this month's column. 1958's "From the Earth to the Moon" gave us Joseph Cotton and George Sanders in a tale of a rocket to the moon that takes place right after the Civil War. Based on a story by Jules Verne, it has a bittersweet ending that elevates it above a lot of 1950s sci-fi.

"Rocketship X-M" (1950) starred Lloyd Bridges as the captain of a rocket crew flying off to explore Mars. I don't want to give it away, but "Cave Women on Mars" owes a debt to this film. Another bittersweet ending shows mankind's drive to explore outweighs the dangers of space exploration.

Mars was a popular destination in the movies of the 1950s. In 1951's "Flight to Mars," an American team of space explorers find and are captured by the last of the dying Martian race. Rumor has that this not-quite-classic film was shot in only five days!

Traveling to outer space has never stopped being a popular subject for movies. From "2001: A Space Odyssey" to "Planet of the Apes," "Alien," and "Interstellar" (and many others), Hollywood has enjoyed trying to depict the enduring allure of space exploration. These voyages are fraught with danger, aliens, and the human desire to overcome all obstacles. All of this is also true about the 2010 Mihmiverse film, "Destination: Outer Space."

It's the story of Captain Mike Jackson (the son of Professor Jackson from "The Monster of Phantom Lake") and his test flight of the Earth's first faster-than-light speed rocket. Early Mihmiverse regular Josh Craig stars as both Captain Mike and his father, the good Professor.

A personal Mihmiverse favorite of mine, Catherine Hansen, appears as the beautiful and mysterious space pirate Yureena Null. Always a solid performer in the Mihmiverse, Ms. Hansen turns in another great performance. I always enjoy seeing her on screen and this is no exception, particularly because it's the first time she appears in a Mihmiverse movie!

Several Mihmiverse regulars are heard but not seen in this movie. If you listen carefully, you will hear the voices of Mike Cook, Shannon McDonough, and writer/director Christopher R. Mihm. Though we don't hear his voice or see his face, Michael G. Kaiser appears as several creatures. "Destination: Outer Space" is the first film to include contributions by monster creator Mitch Gonzales and the man steps into several monster roles, as well (including multiple Oculons and Ominai Crusaders).

Robots, strange alien races, and monsters from mysterious worlds all come together to make this a classic thrill ride of adventure. Will the brave Captain Jackson make it back to Earth? The only way to find out is to watch! You can get your own copy of "Destination: Outer Space at sainteuphoria.com. It is currently available on DVD and will soon be released on Blu-Ray! AND, if you happen to be in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on April 14th, Christopher R. Mihm will personally be hosting a screening of the film at the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson! I will also be there, so please stop by and say hello!

Thank you for reading! See you next month!

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
King Kong Escapes! (1967)
Directed by Ishiro Honda
Starring Akira Takarada and Rhodes Reason

An evil genius with delusions of world domination (and extremely bad teeth) creates a robotic King Kong to mine the rare, radioactive "Element X." Why? Because he who controls "Element X" controls the world—of course! When his creation breaks down, a contingent of goons is sent to kidnap the real Kong in hopes of hypnotizing him into completing the task. Unfortunately, the big ape snaps out of it, swims to Tokyo and, naturally, starts tearing up the place. Robo-Kong follows shortly thereafter and the brawl-to-end-all-giant-ape-brawls begins! The film is beautifully and badly dubbed with great cheeseball miniature work and an amazing (for the era) King Kong costume which, while fun and era-appropriate, isn't even remotely realistic—which is why it's so fantastic!

All things considered, it's a really fun movie if you're into giant primates fighting and destroying stuff. Highly recommended!

STREAM THE MIHMIVERSE
If you're like most people these days, you tend to stream your favorite TV shows and movies, particularly because it's way more convenient and you have access to them in more places! Did you know there are now several places to stream the entire Mihmiverse catalog?

From the movie that started it all, "The Monster of Phantom Lake," to its musical offshoot, "The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!," and the most recent release, "Annihilate All Humans!," everything you need to "visit" the denizens of Phantom Lake County is available for your streaming pleasure!

The ENTIRE filmography of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (including "Annihilate All Humans!") is available through the Mihmiverse Vimeo VOD portal!

Every film is presented using the same ultra high-quality renders used for the official Blu-Ray releases and actually feeds video content to the Drive-in Monsters Roku channel. Most importantly, the Mihmiverse Vimeo VOD portal is the ONLY PLACE to legally own the films digitally!

Retro-style monster movies from the wild & weird imagination of cult filmmaker Christopher R. Mihm! From giant, rampaging spiders to alien invasions and bug-eyed horrors, the Drive-in Monsters channel includes the entire catalog of Mr. Mihm's films, exclusive extras, and long lost special features originally released on currently out-of-print physical media! Explore the worldwide underground cult phenomenon known as the "Mihmiverse" and enjoy the rebirth of the golden age of "drive-in cinema" with the Drive-in Monsters channel!

As of right now, the channel is free... but that, most likely, will not last forever! So make sure to enjoy the Drive-in Monsters Roku channel while it's still completely free of charge!

Most of the films of the Mihmiverse are available on Amazon Video. Sadly, as Amazon continues to revise and rewrite its policies, they have downgraded the entire Mihmiverse catalog from "available with Prime" to rental only. Though this wasn't entirely unexpected—given the way the service has been slowly ridding itself of the films of Christopher R. Mihm—we CANNOT guarantee they will still be there on any given day! So, if Amazon is your preferred place to watch the Mihmiverse, enjoy it while it lasts!

NOTE: Amazon has barred writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (and MANY other independent filmmakers) from adding any new films to their service. As far as we have been able to figure out, the service is taking a more "curated" approach to its catalog and, unfortunately, does not have any more room for the cheesy goodness of the Mihmiverse! Therefore, if you're interested in watching the newest films of the Mihmiverse, we highly recommend checking out the Mihmiverse Roku channel, Drive-in Monsters!
