Mihm's first faux-documentary, KPHL Channel 6 Nightly News anchor Daniel Johnson (Elliott Mihm) hosts a "look back" at one of the most shocking events ever to transpire in Mihmiverse history. Through interviews with survivors and major players involved in the crisis, re-enactments, and never-before-seen archival footage, Mr. Johnson presents the complete and unabridged story of the wad of chewing gum that mutated, became sentient, grew to gargantuan proportions, and threatened the lives of every man, woman, and child in Phantom Lake County!
The disc contains a high quality digital transfer of the film and several exclusive special features, including a blooper reel, two photo galleries, feature-length commentary with writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, English subtitles, and much more!
Feature Run Time: 1 hour, 22 minutes. Color and Black & White, Widescreen, NOT RATED.

THREE BAD GIRLS WHO FIND A GUN AND BECOME VAMPIRES!
With the world premiere of "
The Wad: The True Story Behind the Phantom Lake County Chewing Gum Disaster" just over a month away, writer/director Christopher R. Mihmand the new project's hard-working cast & crew!have been incredibly busy filming the 20th (
!) Mihmiverse film, "
Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires!"
Principal photography of this next movie began in early May and, in a twist few saw coming, will most likely be complete
BEFORE the world premiere of
THIS YEAR'S Mihmiverse movie! To say Mr. Mihm is "ahead of the curve" on this project is a gigantic understatement! In fact, to date, only one other Mihmiverse movie had completed principal photography before the release of the film it followed, and that was 2019's "
Queen of Snakes," a feat only made possible then because it was filmed simultaneously with 2018's "
Guns of the Apocalypse!"
Regardless, should principal photography of "
Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires" continue apace, it will share the distinction of being only the second Mihmiverse movie to accomplish this particular achievementthat is if you don't include the release-date strangeness caused by the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020... but that's an entirely different story!
In the meantime, Mr. Mihm was kind enough to provide the following still from the new movie, which clearly shows fan-favorite actor James Norgard going "full vampire." In the film Mr. Norgard's character is named "Pastor Goodman" and it is spelled out in the movie's synopsis that he is "an immortal, blood-sucking creature of the night." Also, since this film is meant to pay homage to the filmography of the Coen brothers, his character's name is no doubt a reference to the many appearances of actor John Goodman in their catalog.
Based on how cool Mr. Norgard looks with fangs, we're growing more and more excited to see how this next movie shapes up!
In "
Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires," which writer/director Christopher R. Mihm refers to as an ode to "teensploitation" films of the 1950s and the cinematic oeuvre of the Coen Brothers, three female juvenile delinquents obtain a firearm and, just for the thrill of it, start robbing the fine folks of New Berlin. Unfortunately, their crime spree takes an unexpected turn after they mug and nearly murder the gambling-addicted pastor of the local churchwho turns out to be an immortal, blood-sucking creature of the night! Hijinks ensue when the vampiric padre hires a pair of hitmen to help him retrieve his stolen cash and seek revenge against the three bad girls responsible!
The Mihmiverse is only made possible by
contributions from fans like you. And, with the gears of this new project grinding into motion, now is the best time to
contribute to the film! For each $20.00 donation, all
contributors will be entitled to having a single name
* of their choosing listed in the
contributors section of the closing credits of the film and a customized, frame-able document certifying their
contribution!
IMPORTANT! Physical media copies of the finished film are
NOT automatically included with a basic
contribution. If you would like to be guaranteed a DVD or Blu-Ray of the film when it is released, you
MUST order it separately (with the purchase of at least one credit)!
Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

What the Devil? (
or What? the Devil?!)
There are dozens of horror films that feature the Devil, but only a handful that actually have "Devil" in the title. This month, we're looking at some of those Devilishly cheesy classics from yesteryear. Below are two lists. As always, list #1 gives you a title and a release year, while in list #2, the Devil is in the details. Match 'em up correctly and you'll earn the right to raise a little Hell!
1. "The Devil and Daniel Webster" (1941)
2. "The Devil's Eye" (1960)
3. "The Devil's Hand" (1961)
4. "The Devil Rides Out" (1968)
5. "
The Devil's Rain" (1975)
A. The Devil sends Don Juan back to Earth to seduce a virgin and ruin her wedding, but then he falls in love with her. Ingmar Bergman directed.
B. A man is haunted by visions of a beautiful woman. When he actually meets her, he ends up in a Satanic cult. Robert Alda (Alan's dad) stars.
C. A Satanic cult leader is burned alive by the local churchvowing to return to exact revenge on every descendent of the congregation.
D. A 19th Century man sells his soul to the Devil, then hires a lawyer to help get it back. Th screenplay was adapted from a story by Stephen Vincent Benet.
E. Christopher Lee stars in a tale about devil worshippers looking to convert some new victims.
In this new column, we'll be digging through old Mihmiverse-related news and issues of the
Mihmiverse Monthly and
Phantom Lake Almanac (the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a
LOT to choose from!
This month, we go back to February 2014 for a column written by the first lady of the Mihmiverse, Stephanie Mihm, called
From the Mihmiverse Test Kitchens. In this monthly column (which continued for a couple of years!), Mrs. Mihm provided recipes that she and her husband personally made and enjoyed with their (Phantom Lake) kids! This particular month, the family was celebrating Lunar New Year with a recipe for a tasty South Korean street food!
In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Horse, we present the following receipe for a satisfyingly sweet street food from Korea. The first time I tried one of these tasty treats was at an open market in Seoul, South Korea. They were so delicious I had to buy two more! They are best enjoyed during the winter months and served warm.
Sweet Cinnamon Pancakes (Hotteok)
Dough:
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp dried yeast
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup glutinous rice flour
- 2 tsp salt
Filling:
- 2 tbsp. peanuts (crushed)
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
1. Pour 1/2 cup lukewarm water into a bowl and stir in sugar. Sprinkle in the yeast and let stand without stirring for 5 minutes.
2. Sift the plain and rice flour together into mixing bowl. Add salt, yeast mixture, and milk. Mix into a firm dough and knead this thoroughly on a lightly floured surface until it becomes smooth and elastic.
3. Put the dough back into the bowl, cover with a dish towel and leave at room temperature for 3 hours, until it has risen double in size.
4. To make the filling, grind the peanuts finely in a food processor and then mix them with the sugars and cinnamon.
5. Sprinkle a plate with a little flour. Divide the dough into twelve portions. Flatten one piece on your hand, then make a depression in the center with one finger. Place 2 tbsp. of filling on the middle of the dough and wrap the edges around to enclose the filling completely, shaping the dough back into a ball. Place on the plate. Repeat.
6. Pour a little vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat over medium heat. Add a ball of dough and press it down with the back of a wooden spoon to flatten it into a round pancake. You can prepare three to four at once depending on the size of your pan. Fry on both sides until golden brown. Best served warm.
Makes 12 servings
We like to serve these as a dessert when we have Korean food or as a breakfast treat on a cold Minnesota morning. They are delicious. You
DO NOT need syrupjust eat as is. The sweetness is on the inside.
My loving monsters give this little delight 5 out of 5 "Dr. Edwards' reading glasses."
ENJOY!

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Mole People (1956)
Directed by
Virgil W. VogelStarring
John Agar,
Hugh Beaumont and
Cynthia Patrick
In this brilliantly perfect example of the 1950's B-movie, archaeologists played by John Agar (who appeared in many of these Universal Studios cheapies) and Hugh Beaumont (of "
Leave It To Beaver" fame) stumble upon a portal deep into the Earth where they find the descendants of a lost Sumarian off-shoot who, because of the great biblical deluge, were forced to live underground. After years of complete isolation in such harsh environs, they evolved into a race of sour-cream-white albinos who survive solely on mushrooms. Also living with these people are a race of gentle mole-like beings who serve as slaves to the lost tribe. Needless to say, the introduction of outsiders causes quite a stir among the primitive people and their fragile social order. The film is mercifully short (as all great 1950's B-movies are), moves at a great pace, and is really fun to watch (albeit completely preposterous). The sets and the matte paintings used to extend them are especially cool. Finally, the last five minutes of the film are so weird, out-of-place and jarringly bad that I literally laughed out loud. Once you've seen it (or if you've already seen it), you'll know exactly what I mean! Seek this movie out!

Most of the films of the Mihmiverse are available on Amazon Video. Sadly, as Amazon continues to revise and rewrite its policies, they have downgraded the entire Mihmiverse catalog from "available with Prime" to rental only. Though this wasn't entirely unexpectedgiven the way the service has been slowly ridding itself of the films of Christopher R. Mihmwe
CANNOT guarantee they will still be there on any given day! So, if Amazon is your preferred place to watch the Mihmiverse, enjoy it while it lasts!
NOTE: Amazon has barred writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (and
MANY other independent filmmakers) from adding any new films to their service. As far as we have been able to figure out, the service is taking a more "curated" approach to its catalog and, unfortunately, does not have any more room for the cheesy goodness of the Mihmiverse! Therefore, if you're interested in watching the newest films of the Mihmiverse, we highly recommend checking out the Mihmiverse Roku channel,
Drive-in Monsters!
