MIHMIVERSE 2025 WALL CALENDAR!

Back by popular demand!

Writer/director Christopher R. Mihm has designed a brand new, full-sized (8.5" x 11"), 12-month wall calendar for 2025!

The theme for next year is "alternate reality Mihmiverse posters," wherein poster designs for actual 1950s B-movies are "adapted" to look like how they might have appeared had the films of the Mihmiverse premiered back then! The example below demonstrates the theme by taking a poster design for the 1955 "big bug" movie "Tarantula!" and creates a version for the most popular Mihmiverse film to date, "The Giant Spider!"

As in previous years, the 2025 Mihmiverse wall calendar will be released in EXTREMELY limited quantities (less than 100 will be produced). They'll be individually numbered, personally signed by writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, and as always, once they're sold out, no more will be printed!

This item is currently available for PRE-ORDER ONLY. Calendars will ship as soon as we receive them from the print shop!

2024 MIHMIVERSE HOLIDAY ORNAMENT!

Continue the tradition by adding some retro-monster-cheer to your decorations with the ninth annual Mihmverse holiday ornament!

This year's exclusive ornament is based on the giant killer wad of gum from the newest Mihimverse film, "The Wad: The True Story Behind the Phantom Lake County Chewing Gum Disaster!"

This limited-edition collectible is lovingly hand-crafted by members of the Mihm family, individually numbered, includes the year, and joins the ever-growing set which includes last year's Alien (from Annihilate All Humans!), 2022's Beast (from The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us"), 2021's Hunter Robot (from "Danny Johnson Saves the World"), 2020's Oculon (from "Destination: Outer Space"), the title creature from "Queen of Snakes" in 2019, 2018's mutant bat (from "Terror from Beneath the Earth"), 2017's Steve (from "Danny Johnson Saves The World"), and 2016's Monster of Phantom Lake (from the film of the same name).

Because stock is limited to no more than 25 ornaments, we highly recommend ordering NOW to ensure shipment in time for the holidays—AND to make sure you get one, because once they're sold out...no more will be made—EVER!

THE LAST MIHM STANDING CARD GAME!

The Mihmiverse now has its very own card game—and we're almost sold out!

As a "Pandemic Project," Mihmiverse super-fan Barry Perkins (who appeared as a townsperson in "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" and designed & built the St. Euphoria Cemetery seen in the film), has, with the assistance of the rest of the Perkins clan, created a card game based on the films of Christopher R. Mihm: "The Last Mihm Standing!"

The game is made up of 71 cards inspired by the first 17 films (and the musical), tokens for keeping track of certain events, an instruction book, and a die (because sometimes it's better to be lucky than good). Players take turns using cards to do things like releasing a giant spider to attack their opponents, asking "Basement Jesus" to watch over them, or just hiding out in an admittedly-familiar looking forest.

It's a Battle Royale where you win by being the only person not to lose—although, if you're clever enough, you might find a loophole around that! Knowledge of the Mihmiverse is not needed to play the game, but the cards are clearly written by a fan... for the fans.

This game has been professionally manufactured and our stock is quickly running out! Get yours NOW while supplies last!

THREE BAD GIRLS WHO FIND A GUN AND BECOME VAMPIRES!

In writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's ode to "teensploitation" films of the 1950s and the cinematic oeuvre of the Coen Brothers, three female juvenile delinquents obtain a firearm and, just for the thrill of it, start robbing the fine folks of New Berlin. Unfortunately, their crime spree takes an unexpected turn after they mug and nearly murder the gambling-addicted pastor of the local church—who turns out to be an immortal, blood-sucking creature of the night! Hijinks ensue when the vampiric padre hires a pair of hitmen to help him retrieve his stolen cash and seek revenge against the three bad girls responsible!

Don't forget! The Mihmiverse is only made possible by contributor credits, and we need all the help we can get! For each $20.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name* of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film and a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution!

Physical media copies of the finished film are NOT automatically included with a basic contribution. If you would like to be guaranteed a DVD or Blu-Ray of the film when it is released, you MUST order it separately (with the purchase of at least one credit)!

REMEMBER! Credits can be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen! PLUS, order before December 20th and you'll receive a special, perfect-for-framing-and-wrapping, hand-signed letter from writer/director Christopher R. Mihm himself!

I'm in a giving mood this Holiday season, so here's a quiz that any dedicated fan of deliciously cheesy horror films (not to mention the Films of Christopher R. Mihm), should be able to "ace."

With Mr. Mihm in mind, this quiz is about directors.

List #1 gives you the names of four of the best/worst horror film directors of all time. List #2 gives you the name of one of their films—and that's all you get!

Match the director to the movie, and you'll be ready for your closeup. Happy Holidays!

1. William Castle
2. Roger Corman
3. Ed Wood
4. George Romero

A. "Bride of the Monster" (1955)
B. "Creature from the Haunted Sea" (1961)

BLAST FROM THE PAST
In this new column, we'll be digging through old issues of the Mihmiverse Monthly and Phantom Lake Almanac (which was the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a LOT to choose from!

This month we feature a column called From the Mihmiverse Test Kitchens in which the first lady of the Mihmiverse & Queen of Snakes herself, Stephanie Mihm, provided easy-to-make recipes of meals and foods she cooked for her large family! Though this particular recipe appeared in the February 2014 issue of the Mihmiverse Monthly newsletter, we've decided to reprint it because making and enjoying these sweet treats is a Christmas Day tradition in the Mihm family, and we thought it apropos to share!

In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Horse, we present the following recipe for a satisfyingly sweet street food from Korea. The first time I tried one of these tasty treats was at an open market in Seoul, South Korea. They were so delicious I had to buy two more! They are best enjoyed during the winter months and served warm.

Sweet Cinnamon Pancakes (Hotteok)

Dough:
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp dried yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup glutinous rice flour
  • 2 tsp salt
Filling:
  • 2 tbsp. peanuts (crushed)
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
1. Pour 1/2 cup lukewarm water into a bowl and stir in sugar. Sprinkle in the yeast and let stand without stirring for 5 minutes.

2. Sift the plain and rice flour together into mixing bowl. Add salt, yeast mixture, and milk. Mix into a firm dough and knead this thoroughly on a lightly floured surface until it becomes smooth and elastic.

3. Put the dough back into the bowl, cover with a dish towel and leave at room temperature for 3 hours, until it has risen double in size.

4. To make the filling, grind the peanuts finely in a food processor and then mix them with the sugars and cinnamon.

5. Sprinkle a plate with a little flour. Divide the dough into twelve portions. Flatten one piece on your hand, then make a depression in the center with one finger. Place 2 tbsp. of filling on the middle of the dough and wrap the edges around to enclose the filling completely, shaping the dough back into a ball. Place on the plate. Repeat.

6. Pour a little vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat over medium heat. Add a ball of dough and press it down with the back of a wooden spoon to flatten it into a round pancake. You can prepare three to four at once depending on the size of your pan. Fry on both sides until golden brown. Best served warm.

Makes 12 servings

We like to serve these as a dessert when we have Korean food or as a breakfast treat on a cold Minnesota morning. They are delicious. You DO NOT need syrup—just eat as is. The sweetness is on the inside.

My loving monsters give this little delight 5 out of 5 "Dr. Edwards' reading glasses." ENJOY!
— Stephanie Mihm
CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
It's a Wonderful Life
It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
Directed by Frank Capra
Starring James Stewart, Donna Reed and Henry Travers

Director Frank Capra's 1946 Christmas classic, "It's A Wonderful Life," is a bittersweet postwar story of a small town savings-and-loan manager who struggles against a greedy banker and his own self-doubting nature. George Bailey (James Stewart) comes to recognize his life as wonderful and truly rich, but only after suffering many hardships, mishaps and trials. He is given encouragement by a whimsical, endearing, angel-in-training named Clarence (Henry Travers). The picture earned five Academy Award nominations even though it was a box-office flop in 1946. It did not become a Christmas classic until the 1970s after it was aired repeatedly during the holiday season. Later in their lives, both director Frank Capra and star James Stewart referred to the film as their favorite amongst their many respective works.

While this tale is full of classic Hollywood cheese (and you know we love the cheese!) it is also a dark examination of a single man's worth. It illustrates beautifully how we all make a difference in the lives of the people we touch each day. I absolutely love this timeless classic, and it is a must-see each holiday season—I even own the trivia game! If you've never seen it or avoided it because of its perceived hokeyness, I highly recommend giving it a chance—you might be surprised (but remember to have some tissues on hand...just in case)!
