Early last month, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm finished the final edit of his next film, "
The Wad: The True Story Behind the Phantom Lake County Chewing Gum Disaster" and found himself several months ahead of where he thought he'd be in the process! This ended up giving Mr. Mihm something he
RARELY ever has: spare time! And what does one of the most prolific indie filmmakers do when he ends up with unexpected spare time? Naturally, he writes the script for his
NEXT movie!
After completing his 19th feature film in as many years ("
The Wad"), Mr. Mihm realized that next year's movie will be his 20th and, therefore, he needed to do something extra special. His solution was to both embrace the "best of the worst of the worst" of the genre to which he's paid homage for almost two decades
AND continue "stretching his cinematic legs" by trying something new. Thus, the script for "
Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires" was brought into existence!
In what Mr. Mihm refers to as an ode to "teensploitation" films of the 1950s and the cinematic oeuvre of the Coen Brothers, three female juvenile delinquents obtain a firearm and, just for the thrill of it, start robbing the fine folks of New Berlin. Unfortunately, their crime spree takes an unexpected turn after they mug and nearly murder the gambling-addicted pastor of the local churchwho turns out to be an immortal, blood-sucking creature of the night! Hijinks ensue when the vampiric padre hires a pair of hitmen to help him retrieve his stolen cash and seek revenge against the three bad girls responsible!
Color all of us here at the
Mihmiverse Monthly intrigued to hear that this next movie is going to continue stretching the definition of what a Mihmiverse film can be, particularly since this year brings a mockumentary and next year promises a tribute to the work of indie-film auteurs (and famed Minnesota filmmakers) Joel and Ethan Coen!
Never forget that the Mihmiverse is only made possible by
contributions from fans like you. And, with this new project in its very beginning stages, now is the time when the Mihmiverse needs your
contributions the most! For each $20.00 donation, all
contributors will be entitled to having a single name

In this new column, we'll be digging through old Mihmiverse-related news and issues of the
Mihmiverse Monthly and
Phantom Lake Almanac (the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a
LOT to choose from!
This month, we return to mid-March 2020 when the covid-19 pandemic finally hit the United States, and everyone was scrambling trying to figure out what was going to happen and what to do. When it all "went down," writer/director Christopher R. Mihm was stuck at a convention in Dallas, TX that had to be shut down after its first day. Upon finally being able to fly home, he sent us an update which we posted on Wednesday, March 18th, 2020. It's filled with mostly bad news, but there's a vein of optimism running through it that would eventually fade as the pandemic stretched on... and on... and on...
Wednesday, March 18, 2020
IMPORTANT!
It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that, given the current situation, we are temporarily suspending production of "
That Which Lurks in the Dark" and "
The Mihmiverse Holiday Special." Production on both will resume once things return to something resembling normalcy.
Because we are "ahead of the curve" on shooting "
That Which Lurks in the Dark" and never intended to release the film before
NEXT YEAR, this delay will not affect its release date. However, with what will now be a severely shortened production window, "
The Mihmiverse Holiday Special" must be pushed to 2021 (instead of 2020 as we'd hoped). We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the health and safety of the actors and crew is paramount.
As for "
The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us," we have been in contact with the theater about rescheduling the April 29th premiere. Once we have a new release date, we will announce it and then contact all current ticket holders! Don't worry, if you bought tickets and want to (and still can) attend, you'll have a seat!
In the meantime, if there's one painless thing you can do to help keep the Mihmiverse alive, it's to stream the films on Amazon Prime. All streams earn a couple cents an hour and, if everyone watches them specifically on Amazon, the Mihmiverse can continue to pull in a little money to help offset what is going to be lost with the cancellation of multiple events we had scheduled over the next several months. And, for as great as the new Mihmiverse Roku channel is, it currently
DOES NOT generate
ANY revenue. That doesn't mean you
CAN'T watch it, because every minute streamed helps us down the line. Still, if you have the choice right now, Amazon is the best bet and most helpful to us!
Stay safe and be well, Mihmivites! Just because these projects are on hold, it doesn't mean we're sitting around doing
NOTHING. More great Mihmiverse stuff will be coming your way!
EDITORIAL NOTES: Production of "That Which Lurks in the Dark" eventually had to be completely cancelled. Happily, the script lives on in Greg Mitchell's novelization which can be purchased at Amazon! "The Mihmiverse Holiday Special" was eventually finished and released in November 2021. "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" was never able to hold its own world premiere event and, instead, premiered digitally on June 30th, 2021. Some of the films of the Mihmiverse are still available for rent on Amazon Prime, but no longer generate any meaningful revenue for Saint Euphoria Pictures/All For George Productions.
CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
Sting of Death (1966)
Directed by
William GreféStarring
Joe Morrison,
John Vella and
Valerie Hawkins
A group of college-age kids (who, of course, look 40) tag along with a marine biologist to take a vacation in the Florida Everglades. Once they arrive, they meet a creepy guy named Egon, who turns out to be one of the biologist's helpers. Trouble finds the group, however, when a boatful of frat boys and their girlfriends show up and a drunken dance party breaks out. The kids dance to an embarrassingly awful Neil Sedaka song called "Do The Jellyfish" and bully Egon, who suffers from a minor facial disfigurement. Egon runs away in shame and anger, dancing resumes, one of the bikini'd coeds jumps into the pool, and, though the dancing teens are no more than ten feet away, the girl in the swimming pool is attacked by a man-sized jellyfish and left for dead (without anyone noticing until the assault is over and the monster has escaped). What follows is a series of regular-sized- and grotesquely-oversized-jellyfish attacks that leave a lot of people dead. Finally, it's up to the scientist and his
OTHER assistant to unlock the secrets of the how and why of it alland face a terrifying creature hell-bent on killing them all! This movies is not "good" in the conventional sense. It contains lots of shots of attractive young people shaking their bikini bottoms into the camera lens, a
VERY cheap monster costume that makes the title creature from "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" look like high art, wooden acting, and a nonsensical script that needs to be seen to be believed! I'm not entirely sure I
RECOMMEND this movie, but if you're looking for that very particular low-budget, mid-1960s drive-in B-movie vibe, this movie has it in spades!
Christopher R. Mihm
If you're like most people these days, you tend to stream your favorite TV shows and movies, particularly because it's way more convenient and you have access to them in more places! Did you know there are now several places to stream the entire Mihmiverse catalog?
From the movie that started it all, "
The Monster of Phantom Lake," to its musical offshoot, "
The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!," and the most recent release, "
Annihilate All Humans!," everything you need to "visit" the denizens of Phantom Lake County is available for your streaming pleasure!
The
ENTIRE filmography of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (including "
Annihilate All Humans!") is available through the Mihmiverse
Vimeo VOD portal!
Every film is presented using the same ultra high-quality renders used for the official Blu-Ray releases and actually feeds video content to the
Drive-in Monsters Roku channel. Most importantly, the Mihmiverse
Vimeo VOD portal is the
ONLY PLACE to legally own the films digitally!
Retro-style monster movies from the wild & weird imagination of cult filmmaker Christopher R. Mihm! From giant, rampaging spiders to alien invasions and bug-eyed horrors, the
Drive-in Monsters channel includes the entire catalog of Mr. Mihm's films, exclusive extras, and long lost special features originally released on currently out-of-print physical media! Explore the worldwide underground cult phenomenon known as the "Mihmiverse" and enjoy the rebirth of the golden age of "drive-in cinema" with the
Drive-in Monsters channel!
As of right now, the channel is free... but that, most likely, will not last forever! So make sure to enjoy the
Drive-in Monsters Roku channel while it's still completely free of charge!
Most of the films of the Mihmiverse are available on Amazon Video. Sadly, as Amazon continues to revise and rewrite its policies, they have downgraded the entire Mihmiverse catalog from "available with Prime" to rental only. Though this wasn't entirely unexpectedgiven the way the service has been slowly ridding itself of the films of Christopher R. Mihmwe
CANNOT guarantee they will still be there on any given day! So, if Amazon is your preferred place to watch the Mihmiverse, enjoy it while it lasts!
NOTE: Amazon has barred writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (and
MANY other independent filmmakers) from adding any new films to their service. As far as we have been able to figure out, the service is taking a more "curated" approach to its catalog and, unfortunately, does not have any more room for the cheesy goodness of the Mihmiverse! Therefore, if you're interested in watching the newest films of the Mihmiverse, we highly recommend checking out the Mihmiverse Roku channel,
Drive-in Monsters!

Mihmiverse DVDs & Blu-Rays are now available at
SaintEuphoria.com, the online home of the films of Christopher R. Mihm. In addition, exclusive movie posters, collectibles and other merchandise are now in stock. Everything is available in extremely limited quantities, so get yours today before they run out!
