THE WANDERING CREATURE (AND OTHER TALES)!
As of the end of last month, principal photography of "Gnome!," the second segment of the currently-in-production Mihmiverse anthology film, "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)," reached its completion! Work on the third segment, "Panic at the Hot Dog Festival," is underway and, should everything work out, will wrap up early this month.
The still below was taken from some of the footage captured while filming "Panic at the Hot Dog Festival." We're not entirely sure what's going on in this image, but it's nothing if not... weird! We don't know about you, but we can't wait to see what the heck this might mean in the context of the finished film!
Principal photography of the fourth titular segment, "The Wandering Creature," is scheduled to begin at the end of September.
Contributor credits for "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)" are still available! Making an anthology movie has presented a number of unique and unexpected challenges, and the production needs all the monetary help it can get to make sure it lives up to its potential!
In the next great Mihmiverse film, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm takes a stab (pun intended) at an anthology movie in the vein of "Twilight Zone: The Movie," "Trilogy of Terror," and "Creepshow," albeit in his signature retro-B-movie style! In a series of linked, short tales-of-horror, an unmanned spacecraft returning from the asteroid Vesta breaks-up upon re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere and scatters sample containers across Phantom Lake County! Not-so-unexpectedly (particularly for a Mihmiverse movie), contact with the mysterious, otherworldly contents of these canisters create a whole host of terrifying creatures like mushroom monsters, killer garden gnomes, and more! Can the local population survive such shocking encounters, or will this be the end of all life in Phantom Lake County!?
The Mihmiverse is only made possible by contributions from fans like you. As the project soldiers onward through the filming stage, now is definitely the time when the Mihmiverse needs contributions the most!
For each $25.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film, and a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution! Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!
A single credit is defined as the name of one (1) person or corporate entity. Any credit requiring the word "and," an ampersand (&), and/or a comma (except when part of a legal company name) will constitute multiple credits and MUST BE paid for separately. Contributors have NO SAY in the decisions or actions taken by anyone involved in the actual production of the film and are NOT entitled to ANY possible future profits earned by the film, derivative works, and/or merchandise created for or featuring elements from the film. Becoming an contributor does not entitle the participant to ANY ownership WHATSOEVER of the finished film or associated elements.
NOTE: Physical media copies of the finished film are NOT included with contributions. If you would like to receive DVDs and/or Blu-Rays of the film when it is released, you MUST pre-order them separately. We reserve the right to refuse any credit we deem inappropriate. All refused credits will be refunded.

SUPPORT TEAM MIHM/MIHM'S CURLING DREAMS!
Alice and David Mihm (who all true Mihmiverse fans know as Evelyn Johnson and Butch from the
Phantom Lake Kids films, respectively) have created a
GoFundMe campaign to help them realize their curling dreams!
David and Alice (Team Mihm/Mihm) are seeking to qualify for U21 Nationals in juniors mixed doubles curling! Their main goal is to compete in the two upcoming 2025/26 season qualifying events, place in at least the top four (which will secure a berth in the 2026 U21 Mixed Doubles event), and, ultimately, win the title and move on to the world championships! In addition, they plan on playing in multiple juniors- and open-mixed doubles tournaments & bonspiels to hone their skills and, ideally, come out victorious.
The purpose of their
GoFundMe is to help offset some of the costs associated with their ambitious goal. First, they would like to obtain new, high-quality uniforms. Qualifying events, U21 Nationals, bonspiels, and tournaments all require entry fees which can cost as much as $500 per event. Many of these events require travel and, with that, come associated costs like food, transportation, and lodging. Brooms & curling shoes need to be maintained and broom heads need to be replaced for every event. In addition, U21 competitive events mandate the use of specialized, more expensive broom heads.
Alice and David are also recipients of the "Up & Coming Curler" award from their coaches at the St. Paul Curling Club. The award is given to the curler who not only shows great improvement year-to-year, it also celebrates those who demonstrate a deep understanding of the ins-and-outs of the sport. Alice and David also both received the highly coveted "Kyle Satrom Sportsmanship Award," a peer-determined honor given to those who truly exemplify the generosity and respectful spirit of curling!
The team plans to create a special team T-shirt that will be available to the general public and include the names of everyone who pledges at least $50 to the
GoFundMe! Shirts will be available for purchase online following the conclusion of the fundraiser. They will also send one free T-shirt to every individual who donates at least $100! Donations of $500 or more qualify to have the donor's name (or company logo) featured on the official jerseys worn by the team at all events!
FROM ALICE...My name is Alice Mihm and I've been curling for about seven years, two of them competitively. David and I previously competed in U21 Mixed Doubles Nationals in 2024 and plan on playing in the Duluth and Portage qualifiers this coming season. Together, we compliment each other's personalities, styles, and strengths within the game. But, to make our team a real success, we'll need the help of our lovely community along the way. Reaching the top of the podium has been a dream of mine for as long as I have played this wonderful sport, and I know with David by my side and your generous support, we can make it come true!FROM DAVID...Hi! My name is David Mihm. I'm a competitive 15-year-old curler who really got into the sport in 2021 and, since then, have never looked back. My sister and I have been playing the sport together for a while, and I guess you can say we know each other pretty well. We are trying to take the next step towards competitive curling for our age bracket, and that's U21s Mixed Doubles nationals. We firmly believe we can get to the top, but we need help in order to travel and afford places to stay while we're out of town. Hope you can help us take the next step to the ultimate goal of being the best in the world! Thank you!The Mihm family would like to thank you in advance for your generosity in helping Team Mihm/Mihm reach their goals and realize their dreams! In the end, their overall aim is to one day walk in the footsteps of curling siblings Matt & Becca Hamilton (PyeongChang Winter Games 2018) and represent the United States at the Olympics!

"THREE BAD GIRLS WHO FIND A GUN AND BECOME VAMPIRES!"
 |
Though we're all getting really excited about the NEXT Mihmiverse film, don't forget about the latest one, "Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires!" Since its world premiere in March, the film has garnered LOTS of positive praise! Audiences across the world have found it thrilling! (They were thrilled!) If you haven't seen it, you're missing out on one of the most fun Mihmiverse movies to date. The film is currently available to own and/or rent, both on physical media and digitally.
In writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's ode to "teensploitation" films of the 1950s and the cinematic oeuvre of the Coen Brothers, three female juvenile delinquents obtain a firearm and, just for the thrill of it, start robbing the fine folks of New Berlin. Unfortunately, their crime spree takes an unexpected turn after they mug and nearly murder the gambling-addicted pastor of the local churchwho turns out to be an immortal, blood-sucking creature of the night! Hijinks ensue when the vampiric padre hires a pair of hitmen to help him retrieve his stolen cash and seek revenge against the three bad girls responsible!
Both DVDs and Blu-Rays of the film contain a high quality digital transfer of the film and several exclusive special features, including a blooper reel, photo galleries, feature-length commentary with writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, English subtitles, and more!
Feature Run Time: 1 hour, 16 minutes. Black & White, Widescreen, NOT RATED.
Don't forget that in addition to being able to purchase the newly-released Mihmiverse film, "Three Bad Girls Who Find a Gun and Become Vampires," on DVD and Blu-Ray, it's also available to watch (and own) on both Vimeo and Patreon!
In fact, the entire Mihmiverse catalog is available digitally for rent and/or own at the Mihmiverse's Video On-Demand portal at Vimeo and through the Mihmiverse Patreon! In this column, we'll be digging through old issues of the
Mihmiverse Monthly and
Phantom Lake Almanac (which was the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a
LOT to choose from!
This month marks the fifth anniversary of the loss of an unrivaled friend and supporter of the Mihmiverse, Michael Cross. The following reprint of the announcement of his passing appeared in the October 2020 Mihmiverse Monthly newsletter under the heading
In Memoriam.
From writer/director Christopher R. Mihm...
It is with deep sadness that I must announce the recent sudden and unexpected loss of my good friend, the founder and spiritual center of the
Dallas-Fort Worth Fans of the Films of Christopher R. Mihm, Michael Cross.
Michael was an amazing, kind, gentle, uplifting, unbelievably generous human being who brought so many people together. If our vast connections are a spider web, he was the spider... which I say only because he would have gotten a kick out of it, particularly knowing I knew how much he hated spiders!
He encouraged everyone to never give up on their passions, and loved nothing more than bringing people together, particularly when it meant broadening the reach of artists like myself. He was usually the first to contribute to every Mihmiverse production, and was constantly throwing money at me to help keep the movies coming! Because of that and his tireless promotion of my films, my cinematic career would be a shadow of what it is without him. In all honesty, it will never be possible to quantify what he did to help advance my work.
All of that aside, he was one of my best friends, a brother-in-arms, and a father figure. I will never stop missing him and the world now suffers from a distinctly empty hole that will never be adequately filled. His memory was a blessing and as of right now, I am completely unsure how to process his passing. I loved him and I love you all. Life is short and nothing is guaranteed. Be well. Stay safe and please continue to take care of each other.

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Monster that Challenged the World (1957)
Directed by
Arnold LavenStarring
Tim Holt and
Audrey Dalton
An earthquake beneath the Salton Sea opens an underwater chasm from which giant mollusks emerge. As people begin disappearing, it's up to Navy Lieutenant Twillinger (played by Western veteran Tim Holt) to solve the mystery and stop the prehistoric monsters from... challenging the world!
"
The Monster that Challenged the World" boasts some great period-appropriate creature effects, a few surprisingly effective scares and a cheesy, half-hearted love story played by actors who are more-or-less up to the task (most of the time). Needless to say, I love this film because it stands as a perfect example of the types of movies to which my own pay tribute!
Highly recommended!
