CURRENT NEWS
Fun stuff is happening in the Mihmiverse, albeit almost all of it right now is behind-the-scenes. In addition to writer/director Christopher R. Mihm continuing to edit his forthcoming anthology film, "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)," he has informed us that he has OFFICIALLY begun writing the script for his NEXT film!

As of the publication date of this newsletter, we have no details on what exactly the next movie will be, but that's not unusual. Mr. Mihm prefers to NOT announce a project until he has a completed script, lest something happen during the screenwriting process that makes it impossible to finish the script. Either way, we anticipate an announcement soon! Stay tuned!

In the meantime, we've been given permission to post the following exclusive still from the "Gnome!" segment of the anthology. In it, we can clearly see that the titular lawn ornament is up to no good—and someone is paying the price!

"Gnome!" is the last story segment of "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)" yet to be edited. Mr. Mihm has indicated that he is roughly over halfway done, and should have the film complete by the end of the month! This puts him on pace to be able to release the film toward the end of the summer.

As of right now, the release date of "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)" will be at some point in early August. The world premiere WILL NOT be held at The Heights theater, as the venue is now under new management and they have raised rental fees out of our price range. We are currently searching locally for a new venue and have a few good possibilities lined up. As soon as we know exactly when and where, we will let you know!

THE WANDERING CREATURE (AND OTHER TALES)!

Contributor credits for "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)" are still available and make GREAT gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)
In the next great Mihmiverse film, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm takes a stab (pun intended) at an anthology movie in the vein of "Twilight Zone: The Movie," "Trilogy of Terror," and "Creepshow," albeit in his signature retro-B-movie style! In a series of linked, short tales-of-horror, an unmanned spacecraft returning from the asteroid Vesta breaks-up upon re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere and scatters sample containers across Phantom Lake County! Not-so-unexpectedly (particularly for a Mihmiverse movie), contact with the mysterious, otherworldly contents of these canisters create a whole host of terrifying creatures like mushroom monsters, killer garden gnomes, and more! Can the local population survive such shocking encounters, or will this be the end of all life in Phantom Lake County!?

The Mihmiverse is only made possible by contributions from fans like you. As the project soldiers onward through the editing stage, now is definitely the time when the Mihmiverse needs contributions the most!

For each $25.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film, and a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution! Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

A single credit is defined as the name of one (1) person or corporate entity. Any credit requiring the word "and," an ampersand (&), and/or a comma (except when part of a legal company name) will constitute multiple credits and MUST BE paid for separately. Contributors have NO SAY in the decisions or actions taken by anyone involved in the actual production of the film and are NOT entitled to ANY possible future profits earned by the film, derivative works, and/or merchandise created for or featuring elements from the film. Becoming a contributor does not entitle the participant to ANY ownership WHATSOEVER of the finished film or associated elements.

NOTE: Physical media copies of the finished film are NOT included with contributions. If you would like to receive DVDs and/or Blu-Rays of the film when it is released, you MUST pre-order them separately. We reserve the right to refuse any credit we deem inappropriate. All refused credits will be refunded.

BLAST FROM THE PAST
In this column, we'll be digging through old issues of the Mihmiverse Monthly and Phantom Lake Almanac (which was the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a LOT to choose from!

This month, we go back to the May 2008 edition of the Phantom Lake Almanac. "Cave Women on Mars" had just been released, and a column called The Actor's Corner appeared and featured a short interview with one of the stars of the film, Brooke Lemke!

In this month's The Actor's Corner, we talk to Brooke Lemke, who plays Eina, Warrior Prime of the Zil tribe (one of the main characters) from this month's "Cave Women on Mars." Brooke originally auditioned for the role of Julie Ann Saint Marie in 2007's "It Came From Another World!," a role which ultimately went to Shannon McDonough. But, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm liked Brooke's energy and dedication so much, he specifically wrote the part of Eina for her.

Brooke LemkeQ: When did you first become interested in acting and why?
A: In 2004, when I got to be in "Invasion Iowa" with William Shatner. We were told it was a film, but it turned out to be a reality TV show. It didn't take away from the experiences that I had on set, so I went on to learn more and pursue it.

Q: What did you enjoy most about making "Cave Women on Mars?"
A: Helping Chris come up with story plots. I'm more than ready to do the next film, and I get to wear some sweet costumes again!

Q: Is there anything specific you'd like to accomplish or experience in your life?
A: I would love to pursue my horseback riding professionally on top of filmmaking. I'm determined to have a studio and a barn out in the country, so all day I can ride horses and make films!

BONUS: If you could be any kind of breakfast cereal, what would you be and why?
A: Kix; it's sweet, yet wholesome!

EDITORIAL NOTE: Unfortunately, Brooke Lemke never appeared in another Mihmiverse film. The "story plots" she refers to in the interview above were for a potential trilogy of "Cave Women on Mars" films, which was to include "War of the Cave Women" and "King of the Cave Women."
CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Brain Eaters (1958)
Directed by Bruno VeSota
Starring Ed Nelson and Alan Frost

A silver, building-sized, spiral-shaped object crash lands outside a small Midwestern town. The local academics investigate but, at first, find nothing inside but a series of closed-loop tunnels. Shortly thereafter, it becomes apparent there was more to the appearance of the craft when townspeople start acting strange and violent—the work of small, fuzzy, pipe-cleaner antenna-ed, brain-eating parasites from deep beneath the Earth's surface. Will the town survive the brain eaters' onslaught? Will the country? Will the WORLD!? Hyperbole notwithstanding, this film falls squarely in the "so-bad-it's-good" category. The production looks and feels very low budget. The acting, directing, editing, production values, and special effects all have a distinct "drive-in double feature" vibe. The brain parasite creatures are literally wind-up toys covered in fur and pipe cleaners! The film also contains what amounts to a speaking cameo appearance by a young Leonard Nimoy (though made up to look very old)—a role for which his last name is incorrectly spelled in the credits! All things considered, the film is not GREAT, but it is a great example of low-budget mid-twentieth-century schlock. Highly recommended—but only for the biggest fans of the genre!
