THE MONSTER OF PHANTOM LAKE 20TH ANNIVERSARY!
"The Monster of Phantom Lake" 20th Anniversary
Join us to celebrate the film that started it all—in full COLOR!

Almost exactly 20 years ago on March 9th, 2006, "The Monster of Phantom Lake," held its world premiere in Columbia Heights, MN—and the Mihmiverse was born! Of course, no one knew at the time that writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's first movie would eventually blossom into a full cinematic universe (two years before Marvel!) and include more than 20 films, a stage musical, and a holiday special.

In honor of the now-classic movie, Mr. Mihm has remastered the film in full color and will be holding a special 20th anniversary event on March 5th, 2026 at the SECOND theater at which the film screened: the Woodbury 10 Theatre in Woodbury, MN.

Attendees will enjoy an evening of retro-inspired cinematic fun complete with hand-picked, era-appropriate newsreels, classic trailers, appearances by familiar Mihmiverse faces (including Professor Jackson himself, Josh Craig!), autographs, photo opportunities, and more! DVDs, Blu-Rays, posters, exclusive collectibles, and other merchandise will be on sale!

Admission is $10 per ticket and advance tickets are now available on the Woodbury 10 Theatre's website.

Click the PURCHASE TICKETS button below to grab the best seats in the house before someone else does! Join us!

The Woodbury 10 Theatre is located at 1470 Queens Drive in Woodbury, MN.

CURRENT NEWS
THE WANDERING CREATURE (AND OTHER TALES)!

In addition to preparing for the 20th anniversary of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" and playing drums in his re-formed band, God's Lunchbox, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm continues to focus on editing his anthology film, "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)."

After finishing the edit for the segment entitled "The Hand That Wouldn't Die" early last month, Mr. Mihm is now working on the last incomplete segment, "Gnome!," which follows an angry garden gnome who, after being brought to life by mysterious science, seeks revenge on a maladjusted, disaffected young man with bad intentions toward the iconic lawn ornament!

Once this segment is done, only a pair of short "bookend" scenes and credits will remain!

We've received a new exclusive still from the recently-finished segment, "The Hand That Wouldn't Die." In it, we finally get a look at the titular appendage! Eat your heart out, Thing from "The Addams Family!"

"The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)" is on pace to be released toward the end of the summer. Given the recent ownership change at The Heights Theater (where all previous Mihmiverse premieres have been held), it is uncertain if the world premiere of this next film will take place there. Only time will tell! As always, stay tuned!

Contributor credits for "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)" are still available and make GREAT gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)
In the next great Mihmiverse film, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm takes a stab (pun intended) at an anthology movie in the vein of "Twilight Zone: The Movie," "Trilogy of Terror," and "Creepshow," albeit in his signature retro-B-movie style! In a series of linked, short tales-of-horror, an unmanned spacecraft returning from the asteroid Vesta breaks-up upon re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere and scatters sample containers across Phantom Lake County! Not-so-unexpectedly (particularly for a Mihmiverse movie), contact with the mysterious, otherworldly contents of these canisters create a whole host of terrifying creatures like mushroom monsters, killer garden gnomes, and more! Can the local population survive such shocking encounters, or will this be the end of all life in Phantom Lake County!?

The Mihmiverse is only made possible by contributions from fans like you. As the project soldiers onward through the filming stage, now is definitely the time when the Mihmiverse needs contributions the most!

For each $25.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film, and a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution! Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

A single credit is defined as the name of one (1) person or corporate entity. Any credit requiring the word "and," an ampersand (&), and/or a comma (except when part of a legal company name) will constitute multiple credits and MUST BE paid for separately. Contributors have NO SAY in the decisions or actions taken by anyone involved in the actual production of the film and are NOT entitled to ANY possible future profits earned by the film, derivative works, and/or merchandise created for or featuring elements from the film. Becoming a contributor does not entitle the participant to ANY ownership WHATSOEVER of the finished film or associated elements.

NOTE: Physical media copies of the finished film are NOT included with contributions. If you would like to receive DVDs and/or Blu-Rays of the film when it is released, you MUST pre-order them separately. We reserve the right to refuse any credit we deem inappropriate. All refused credits will be refunded.

MORE GOD'S LUNCHBOX HAS ARRIVED!

As writer/director Christopher R. Mihm continues to edit his anthology film, "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)," he has also found time to make and record more music with his Mihmiverse-adjacent rock band, God's Lunchbox.

Building off the initial release of two songs last month, two NEW songs, Break and Voices, are now available to check out at Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music, YouTube, and other music streaming services!

Here's the official description of the band from their promotional materials:

God's Lunchbox is a rock band from Minneapolis, MN.

Originally formed by friends Christopher R. Mihm (Drums), Geoffrey Miller (Guitar), and Michael Mason (Bass/Vocals), GLB has been performing music together off and on for over two decades.

A combination of inspiration from '90s rock and grunge music, GLB creates original music that makes people raise their fists and bang their heads.

Enjoy!

BLAST FROM THE PAST
In this column, we'll be digging through old issues of the Mihmiverse Monthly and Phantom Lake Almanac (which was the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a LOT to choose from!

In honor of the 20th anniversary of the release of "The Monster of Phantom Lake," we went back as far as we could into the Phantom Lake Almanac archives and pulled out a fun little column entitled By The Numbers, which laid out surprising numbers-based facts and factoids about the first few films of the Mihmiverse. The following originally appeared in February of 2007. Unfortunately, all issues of the Mihmiverse newsletter before then have been lost to time, so this was as good as we could do. STILL, the subject is focused on the film we are celebrating this month, so everything worked out!

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Monster of Phantom Lake (2006)
Directed by Christopher R. Mihm
Starring Josh Craig, Leigha Horton, and Deanne McDonald

A glowing tribute to the creature features of the 1950s, this homegrown film from director Christopher R. Mihm works as equal parts reflexive comedy and straight-up drive-in shocker. When a scientist (Josh Craig) and his love-struck grad student (Leigha Horton) set out for a jolly weekend of "scientific experimentation," they're in for horrifying results. After a shell-shocked WWII vet stumbles into a lake that's loaded with nuclear waste, the duo, along with a group of rock 'n' roll-loving co-eds, find themselves stalked by a leafy, slimy monster. In keeping with the low-budget tradition, the indelibly costumed creature is kept under wraps for most of the film, appearing only as the hand that reaches into the frame and grasps terrified victims. Craig demonstrates his mastery of Shatner-style pause-acting ("Wait a minute... Wait...a...minute"), while Mihm takes the audience on a jolly tour of tongue-in-cheek '50s sexism, hilarious innuendo, and plenty of arm's length slow-dancing. Featuring Mihm's original composition "A-Rockin', A-Rollin', All the Way A-Ramblin'" along with a wealth of public-domain mood music (listen closely and you'll hear snippets from "Carnival of Souls"), this is an unusually warm and witty homage.

NOTE: This review of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" was the first to ever be published. It originally appeared on March 8th, 2006, the day before the film's world premiere, in the Minneapolis/St. Paul City Pages, a free, arts-focused weekly paper that ran from August 1979 through October 2020.
