Two weeks before the publication of this newsletter, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm finished filming all of the "host segments" with Elliott Mihm (who is playing an older version of his best-known character Danny Johnson) for the faux-documentary! The following behind-the-scenes photo was taken by script supervisor Alice Mihm (who everyone knows as Evelyn Johnson in the Phantom Lake Kids films). Check it out!
If the filming schedule holds as it exists right now, principal photography will be finished by mid-February! However, just because this stage of making the film is almost done, it doesn't mean the production still doesn't need
from fans like yourself! In fact, it's when the film enters the post-production phase (the one that comes
If you're willing, able, and interested in ensuring that this new film is completed and released this year, we very much encourage you to
In writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's first faux-documentary, KPHL Channel 6 Nightly News anchor Daniel Johnson (Elliott Mihm) hosts a "look back" at one of the most shocking events ever to transpire in Mihmiverse history. Through interviews with survivors and major players involved in the crisis, re-enactments, and never-before-seen archival footage, Mr. Johnson presents the complete and unabridged story of the wad of chewing gum that mutated, became sentient, grew to gargantuan proportions, and threatened the lives of every man, woman, and child in Phantom Lake County!
Don't forget! The Mihmiverse is only made possible by

And I Quote...Again!
Last month, we tested your QQ (Quotes Quotient) by asking you to match a quote with the classic horror film from which it came.
This month, we're delving into classic Sci-Fi cinema.
List #1: The films. List #2: The Quotes. These are a bit harder, so if you can match them up correctly this time around, you definitely have a high QQIQ!
1. "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951)
2. "Forbidden Planet" (1956)
3. "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1956)
4. "Plan 9 from Outer Space" (1959)
5. "
Fahrenheit 451" (1966)
A. "I don't want to live in a world without love, grief or beauty. I'd rather die."
B. "I am fearful when I see people substituting fear for reason."
C. "No beer, no women, no pool parlors. Nothin' to do but throw tin cans, and we gotta bring our own tin cans."
D. "To learn how to find, one must first learn to hide."
E. "We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives."

In this new column, we'll be digging through old issues of the
Mihmiverse Monthly and
Phantom Lake Almanac (which was the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a
LOT to choose from!
This month, we flashback to April 2018 for an interesting bit of news that appeared in the
Current News section of the issue. It seems that in the previous month, principal photography of
TWO concurrently-shot Mihmiverse films had begunthe only time in the history of the 'verse this has
EVER happened!
Principal photography of both Mihmiverse films currently in production ("
Queen of Snakes" and "
Guns of the Apocalypse") has begun!
As of the publication of this newsletter, (if one were to go strictly by number of scenes in either script), a full fourth of "
Queen of Snakes" and a third of "
Guns of the Apocalypse" are "in the can!" Editing of both films is ongoing and, should everything work out, oneor possibly bothwill be released by the end of the year! To get us even
MORE excited for these upcoming movies, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm was kind enough to share exclusive images from each film. Check them out below!
The first still comes from "
Queen of Snakes" and was filmed at the
Heights Theater, where every Mihmiverse premiere has taken place since "
The Monster of Phantom Lake!" In this image, actors Rachel Grubb (Amy/Hagra/Leisl) and Daniel R. Sjerven (Howard Johnson/Cpt. Frehley) appear to be awkwardly waiting for the start of a movie. However, upon closer inspection, the more interesting thing seems to be the number of Mihmiverse references happening in the background! Can you spot them all?
In the second image (below), we get a first look at "
Guns of the Apocalypse" stars Alice Mihm (as Hope) and Kira Pontiff (as Faith). We're not entirely sure what their characters are hiding from but, based on the looks on their faces, whatever it is can't be good!

EDITORIAL NOTE: Besides the scene being filmed inside the Heights Theater, all of the Mihmiverse references included in the still from "Queen of Snakes" above include: All five Phantom Lake Kids are seated directly behind Daniel R. Sjerven & Rachel Grubb, the woman with the three young girls behind them are Mr. Sjerven's wife and daughters, and, behind them on the end of the row sits writer/director Christopher R. Mihm. Across the aisle is "Mihmiverse Master Monster-maker" Mitch Gonzales. The kissing couple in front of him are Brent Hilgart and Sara Stein. Mr. Hilgart was previously seen obliviously making out with a DIFFERENT actress in a convertible during the drive-in attack scene in "The Giant Spider." Rumor has it Mr. Hilgart's character will be making another cameo in the next film, albeit with yet ANOTHER new companion!
CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
She Demons (1958)
Directed by
Richard E. CunhaStarring
Irish McCalla,
Tod Griffin and
Victor Sen Yung
An "All American" hunk, a blonde bombshell and an Asian guy stuck making offensive and stereotypical jokes ("jumpin' wontons!") are shipwrecked on an uncharted island. Not only do they find themselves at ground zero of a planned atomic test, but
ALSO in the middle of an escaped Nazi doctor's experiment in which he turns beautiful women into monsters in search of a "cure" for his wife's disfiguration. "
She Demons" was a cheap B-picture made by Astor Pictures to complete a double feature which included the director's other film, "
Giant from the Unknown." The film was intended to comedically mimic the kinds of stories found in men's "adventure magazines" popular at the time, and definitely comes off as lurid and exploitative (at least by the standards of the era). The script is generally abysmal and the acting and direction aren't much better. However, as an example of a movie
SO BAD it crosses that magic line and becomes good, you can do worse than "
She Demons." It should be noted, however, that a lot of the humor is
NOT politically correct by modern standards. Because of that, I can't really
RECOMMEND this film, but, if you, like me, have seen everything else released during the era of drive-in cinema, this is worth at least one viewing, but
ONLY if you're a cheesy-late-1950s-movie completist!

As of right now, the channel is free... but that, most likely, will not last forever! So make sure to enjoy the

Most of the films of the Mihmiverse are available on Amazon Video. Sadly, as Amazon continues to revise and rewrite its policies, they have downgraded the entire Mihmiverse catalog from "available with Prime" to rental only. Though this wasn't entirely unexpectedgiven the way the service has been slowly ridding itself of the films of Christopher R. Mihmwe
CANNOT guarantee they will still be there on any given day! So, if Amazon is your preferred place to watch the Mihmiverse, enjoy it while it lasts!
NOTE: Amazon has barred writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (and
MANY other independent filmmakers) from adding any new films to their service. As far as we have been able to figure out, the service is taking a more "curated" approach to its catalog and, unfortunately, does not have any more room for the cheesy goodness of the Mihmiverse! Therefore, if you're interested in watching the newest films of the Mihmiverse, we highly recommend checking out the Mihmiverse Roku channel,
Drive-in Monsters!
