CURRENT NEWS
It's "back to school" time and, as always, that means it's time to hunker down and focus on what's coming NEXT in the Mihmiverse: writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's "flying-saucer-attack" epic, "Annihilate All Humans!"

Principal photography of the new film began in earnest at the end of May (even before the official release of "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Day the Earth Abruptly Almost Ended") and has continued throughout the summer, albeit at a slower pace than previous Mihmiverse productions. Given the way the script is constructed, a large portion of it will involve special effects, thus giving the cast & crew more leeway in scheduling the film shoot. Also, Mr. Mihm has been doing everything possible to keep the set Covid free and, as a result, has had to reschedule several filming days due to possible exposures and/or positive tests. Thankfully, potential Covid-related delays were worked into the initial plan and the film is still on-schedule for where it was always supposed to be!

Should everything continue to work out, we anticipate that "Annihilate All Humans!" will be released next summer! AND, with how well the world premiere of "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Day the Earth Abruptly Almost Ended" went, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm absolutely plans on holding another live, in-theater event to celebrate the release of the next film! We hope to see you there!

Speaking of the sheer amount of special effects required to bring his vision to the silver screen, check out the cool still below, taken from the new film, and sent to us by writer/director Christopher R. Mihm. In it, we can clearly see a landed flying saucer and a figure walking away from it. We honestly have no idea who this person/creature is, but it's definitely a thrill to be granted such an explicit idea of the level of retro-cheesy-goodness the film is aiming for! Next year can't come soon enough!

In "Annihilate All Humans!," the world is under attack by flying saucers and only top scientists (Dr. Edwards and Dr. Gabriel) can put an end to their unearthly aggression! Unfortunately, they have no idea it's even happening because they've been kidnapped by General Castle and taken to a remote cabin deep in the woods for some unsolicited rest & relaxation! Can our heroes find their way back to civilization in time to stop the alien menace, or will the seemingly unstoppable space invaders succeed in their quest to ANNIHILATE ALL HUMANS!?

Ever since 2010's "Destination: Outer Space," production of the films of the Mihmiverse has been entirely funded by contributions from individual fans like you—and "Annihilate All Humans!" is no different! The production is in desperate need of contributions to stay afloat—ESPECIALLY now that it's in the midst of principal photography!

For each $20.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name* of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film and a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution!

IMPORTANT! Physical media copies of the finished film are NOT automatically included with a basic contribution. If you would like to be guaranteed a DVD or Blu-Ray of the film when it is released, you MUST order it separately (with the purchase of at least one credit)!

Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

THIS MONTH IN MIHMIVERSE HISTORY
Since the films of Christopher R. Mihm have existed for over 15 years, we figured digging into them would make for an entertaining addition to this newsletter! Thus, in this new section, aptly titled This Month in Mihmiverse History, we'll traipse through the "days of Mihmiverse past" and present some of the most interesting events!

In September 2006, the first Mihmiverse film, "The Monster of Phantom Lake," screened during "horror week" at the Wisconsin Historical Museum. Dr. Ivan Cryptosis, Curator of the Macabre, hosted the weeklong event and, shortly thereafter, became the first "official horror host of the Mihmiverse," a title which currently belongs to Dr. Bob Tesla of Midnight Monster Movies with Dr. Bob.

Production of "Destination: Outer Space" was put on hold in late September of 2010 after writer/director Christopher R. Mihm suffered a severe muscle strain while... cooking. No one is quite sure how or why it happened, but the injury was not deemed life-threatening—simply painful. Unfortunately, it pushed the filming schedule back a full week to give Mr. Mihm extra time to recover—which he did.

In 2010, the actor who played Dr. Banks in "Attack of the Moon Zombies" posted a short documentary of his trip to the world premiere of "Destination: Outer Space." It does a great job of capturing the event and the large crowd that attended. Check it out below!

It was announced that "The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!" was nominated for Best Local Musical in September of 2016 by Volume One, the guide to culture & entertainment in the Chippewa Valley of Wisconsin. The winner was determined by popular vote and "The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Muscial!" ultimately took third place!

The last Mihmiverse film to be released in the fall, "Guns of the Apocalypse," came out on September 26th, 2018.

The founder and spiritual center of the "Dallas-Fort Worth Fans of the Films of Christopher R. Mihm," Michael Cross (pictured below with writer/director Christopher R. Mihm and two Steve People, one of which is cosplaying along with Mr. Cross as Dr. Edwards), passed away unexpectedly in September of 2020 after suffering a major cardiac event. He is greatly missed.

MIHMIVERSE FAN FOCUS
Welcome to the Mihmiverse Monthly feature where we talk to YOU, the fans! Every month, we choose a random Mihmivite and ask them a few Mihmiverse-related questions in an attempt to get to know them better and find out what they REALLY think about the films of Christopher R. Mihm!

This month, we interview Cindy Green!

Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse!
Hi, my name is Cindy Green and I am a retired banker. I live in a suburb of Kansas City, MO with my husband Jim and cat Misty. Now that we are retired, my husband and I enjoy traveling (car and a bike) and finding unique things to see—giant rocking chairs, giant pecans, etc.—you get the drift!

When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm?
My husband and I have always loved watching old movies. In 2018, we were somewhat bored and thought we should start having "date night" but, since we were both still working and are kind of home bodies, we decided on an "in home" date night. We would have special foods, drinks, and then a movie. We agreed that we would start with old monster and sci-fi collections. At the time, Amazon Prime had a pretty good collection of these movies. Jim was browsing for a Friday night movie and came across " The Monster of Phantom Lake." We watched it, loved it, and decided we wanted to see more.

If you had to pick just ONE, which of the Mihmiverse films would be your favorite?
If I had to pick just one Mihmiverse movie... I don't think I can! I'd guess my top three are "The Giant Spider," "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us," and "The Wall People." "Weresquito: Nazi Hunter" is my favorite movie title. (Right, Billy Blue?) It took watching the Mihmiverse films more than once to find all the hidden gems that make these movies so entertaining.

Tell us how you, in particular, show your "Mihmiverse pride!"
I show my Mihmiverse pride by purchasing posters which we display in our movie room, buying movies (I have all of them but the musical), and contributing to the moviemaking process. (Hey, who doesn’t like seeing their name in the credits of a movie?) Most recently we had a week of beautiful motorcylce-riding weather and we rode to Minneapolis to attend the world premiere of the latest movie, "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Day the Earth Abruptly Almost Ended" I even got my picture taken with Bruce the Alien! I mean, how cool is that!?

Where would you like to see the Mihmiverse go in the future?
In the future, I would like to see more space adventures. I really enjoy the special affects like in "Attack of the Moon Zombies" and "It Came from Another World!" I just want writer/director Christopher R. Mihm Keep to keep doing what he's doing and I look forward to next year's release, "Annihilate All Humans!"

THE TRIVIA CORNER
Cheesy Westerns!

There are a lot of cheesy western films out there, but only a handful that add elements of science fiction and/or horror. In fact, I couldn't find any of note released before 1966. But still, there are enough from the '60s and '70s for a "rootin tootin'" quiz!

As always, There are two lists: one with titles, and one with plot points and other information. Match 'em up, and you'll be king of the cowboys... or queen of the cowgirls! Yee-Haw!

1. "Billy the Kid vs. Dracula" (1966)
2. "Jesse James meets Frankenstein's Daughter" (1966)
3. "The Valley of Gwangi" (1969)
4. "Westworld" (1973)
5. "Welcome to Blood City" (1977)

A. An outlaw on the run hides out in a castle where zombies are made.
B. Robots run amok in a western-themed amusement park.
C. A cowboy played by James Franciscus is out to rope himself a dinosaur.
D. A group of people find themselves in what looks like a western town with no knowledge of who they are or how they got there. Then the killing begins. Jack Palance stars.
E. John Carradine moves to the wild west aiming to kill a farmer's daughter, but an outlaw aims to save her.

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
First Man into Space (1959)
Directed by Robert Day
Starring Marshall Thompson, Bill Edwards, and Marla Landi

During the inaugural flight of the experimental Y-13 spacecraft, hotshot pilot Dan Prescott (Bill Edwards) ignores orders and takes the craft twice as far as he was supposed to. During his record-breaking climb, he passes through a cloud of mysterious meteorite dust that shuts down his ship and forces him to crash land in the New Mexico desert. When the proper authorities arrive to secure the craft and pilot, they find only the ship—strangely covered in an impenetrable-to-all-technologies, rock-like crust. Later that evening, weirdness begins to happen in the nearest town as the local blood bank is violently broken into, a nurse is killed, and much of the blood disappears! Next, local cows are found dead and completely drained of blood, and stories of a hideous monster begin to surface. When a shred of evidence is discovered linking the burglary, cattle mutilations, and the experimental aircraft, the pilot's brother and girlfriend begin to piece together the true story of what may have happened to Dan Prescott—and it's as cheesy and "terrifying" as any classic B-movie fan can imagine! Despite trying a little too hard to be serious, and taking into account the B-movie "cheese factor," "First Man into Space" succeeds in being a well-put-together film. The monster costume is very cool and unique, albeit painfully obvious very early on what it is and what created it. One thing this movie really has going for it is the ending. Many low-budget monster films of the 1950s end with the creature being defeated in some asinine way (quicksand, anyone?), but this film definitely has a cool conclusion you may not be expecting. "First Man into Space" is a solid, entertaining film that I recommend wholeheartedly! Check it out if you've never seen it!

STREAM THE MIHMIVERSE
If you're like most people these days, you tend to stream your favorite TV shows and movies, particularly because it's way more convenient and you have access to them in more places! Did you know there are now several places to stream the entire Mihmiverse catalog?

Every film is presented using the same ultra high-quality renders used for the official Blu-Ray releases and actually feeds video content to the Drive-in Monsters Roku channel. Most importantly, the Mihmiverse Vimeo VOD portal is the ONLY PLACE to legally own the films digitally!

Retro-style monster movies from the wild & weird imagination of cult filmmaker Christopher R. Mihm! From giant, rampaging spiders to alien invasions and bug-eyed horrors, the Drive-in Monsters channel includes the entire catalog of Mr. Mihm's films, exclusive extras, and long lost special features originally released on currently out-of-print physical media! Explore the worldwide, underground cult phenomenon known as the "Mihmiverse" and enjoy the rebirth of the golden age of "drive-in cinema" with the Drive-in Monsters channel!

As of right now, the channel is free... but, that most likely will not last forever! So make sure to enjoy the Drive-in Monsters Roku channel while it's still completely free of charge!

Most of the films of the Mihmiverse are available on Amazon Video. Sadly, as Amazon continues to revise and rewrite its policies, they have downgraded the entire Mihmiverse catalog from "available with Prime" to rental only. Though this wasn't entirely unexpected—given the way the service has been slowly ridding itself of the films of Christopher R. Mihm—we CANNOT guarantee they will still be there on any given day! So, if Amazon is your preferred place to watch the Mihmiverse, enjoy it while it lasts!

NOTE: Amazon has barred writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (and MANY other independent filmmakers) from adding any new films to their service. As far as we have been able to figure out, the service is taking a more "curated" approach to its catalog and, unfortunately, does not have any more room for the cheesy goodness of the Mihmiverse! Therefore, if you're interested in watching the newest films of the Mihmiverse, we highly recommend checking out the Mihmiverse Roku channel, Drive-in Monsters!
