It's BACK TO SCHOOL time and, as has been the trend over the last ten years, we expect this month to be a quiet one. However, that doesn't mean things aren't continuing to happen behind the scenes!

For many years, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm has been a big fan of the sport of curling, a game that dates back to medieval times and is often referred to as "chess on ice." Because of his love of the sport, he has decided to go from spectator to participant—by forming his own honest-to-goodness team: THE ROCK MONSTERS, the official curling team of the Mihmiverse!

Members of the team include Mr. Mihm himself, the first lady of the Mihmiverse, Stephanie Mihm, monster-of-all-trades Michael Kaiser and Mark Haider, co-host of the Mihmiverse Bonfire Podcast. The team currently plays in a weekly league at the Four Seasons Curling Club at Fogerty Arena in Blaine, MN (an official U.S. Olympic training site)!

In honor of the formation of the Rock Monsters, we are offering all Mihmivites a chance to become a "team booster" and receive an official team T-shirt, complete with their name (or a name of their choosing) on the back! The front of the shirt will showcase the image seen here (designed by writer/director Christopher R. Mihm himself) and the back will feature the official logo of Saint Euphoria Pictures/All for George Productions plus a list of all team boosters—including YOURS if you sign up RIGHT NOW!

All contributions are $25 per name (plus $5 shipping and handling) and, as always, shipping is FREE for all members of the fan club! This offer will only be available for a limited time because the shirts will be printed (and worn by the team) in time for the fall league, which begins the week of September 20th!

To become a booster, visit the Rock Monsters page at SaintEuphoria.com by clicking HERE! Go Rock Monsters!

Don't forget! Scheduled for the EXACT date of the release of the film that started the Mihmiverse, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm will be holding an exclusive party/screening in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area on March 9th, 2016 to celebrate the release of the currently-in-production "The Monster of Phantom Lake" 10th Anniversary Edition DVD...IN 3-D!

The Monster of Phantom Lake IN 3D!
That's right! In addition to working on his part of the musical stage version of the film, Mr. Mihm is busy converting the film into an old school red/blue 3-D film that will be made available on DVD on "Monster Day" (the Mihmiverse holiday created specifically to celebrate the release of the film over the years) early next year! This special edition release will include both 3D and non-3D versions of the film and several NEW extras, including a new audio commentary from writer/director Christopher R. Mihm reflecting on the film and its impact on the Mihmiverse! Other cool special features are in the planning stages and will be revealed over the coming months as they come together!

Want to help with the production of this special edition of the film that began the Mihmiverse? Want to receive a contributor credit at the end of this new print of the film? Want to reserve your copy of the DVD AND your spot at the release party/screening? Contributor credits are NOW AVAILABLE!

For each $50.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name* of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film, a customized, frameable document certifying their participation in the program, one (1) copy of this special edition on DVD and one (1) collector's ticket to the DVD release party/screening! Additional DVDs of the film and/or party tickets may be pre-ordered as "add-ons" ($10 each) with the purchase of at least one credit.

Contributor credits can even be given as gifts! There are few gifts as unique as your loved one's name in the end credits of a movie, especially a film as beloved as this!

If you'd like to contribute, visit the contributor page at SaintEuphoria.com by clicking HERE!

*A single credit is defined as the name of one (1) person or corporate entity. Any credit requiring the word "and," an ampersand (&), and/or a comma (except when part of a legal company name) will constitute multiple credits and MUST BE paid for separately.

NOTE: The contributor program is an "equal exchange" program, which means specifically that those participating have NO SAY in the decisions or actions taken by anyone involved in the actual production of the film and are NOT entitled to ANY possible future profits earned by the film, derivative works, and/or merchandise created for or featuring elements from the film. Becoming an contributor does not entitle the participant to ANY ownership WHATSOEVER of the finished film or associated elements.

Lobby cards are a form of movie advertising that were quite common from the early days of film, up through the B-movie-rich 1950s and '60s. Usually issued in sets of eight, each card featured a different scene from the film. These days, full sets of lobby cards are highly sought by collectors.

Lobby card sets for "The Giant Spider," "Attack of the Moon Zombies," "The Late Night Double Feature," "The Monster of Phantom Lake" and "Danny Johnson Saves The World" have all been released, and they've ALL SOLD OUT!

Because of the exceptional popularity of these collectibles, a new lobby card set for 2009's "Terror from Beneath the Earth" is now available—BUT, since it's already been one sale for several weeks, ONLY three sets remain in our inventory!

Designed by Mr. Mihm himself, this set of eight 8.5" x 11" lobby cards depicts scenes from the film and are hand-colorized and stylistically "weathered" to look extra retro! Order now before they're gone, because once they're sold out, they may never be available EVER AGAIN!

$19.99 per set (FREE shipping & handling, even international!)

Blood of Dracula (1957)
Directed by Herbert L. Strock
Starring Sandra Harrison and Louise Lewis

After her mother dies and her father quickly remarries, an angry, disaffected teenage girl finds herself basically dumped in an all-girls boarding school. The other girls there take an intense and immediate disliking to her. As a result, she violently lashes out. Her aggressive behavior (and overall demeanor) catches the attention of one of the school's instructors, a scientifically corrupt and morally challenged woman with a ridiculous, 1950s-B-movie theory: if you were to unleash and somehow manifest the evil inherent in all human beings, you would demonstrate a weapon of such unbelievable horror that humanity would give up its quest for atomic weapons and live in peace. Under the guise of therapeutic hypnosis sessions, the instructor uses a magical amulet (that's somehow tangentially related to Dracula, hence the title) to release the teenager's hatred and underlying malice and transform her into a strange, vampire-esque monster. Not-so-surprisingly, the creature stalks the campus and the body count rises. If you're a fan of "1950s-drive-in cinema," you probably have a pretty good idea of how this ends. "Blood of Dracula" is a perfect example of the teen-centric "cheapies" American International Pictures was infamous for in the 1950s and '60s. It includes attractive, young and marginally talented actors playing hip, know-it-all teens who love to drink, dance, and romance, while inept adults take advantage of and generally underestimate them. This film is mercifully short and extremely entertaining, especially when the guy with the strange accent/speech impediment shows up and sings a cheesy little rock n' roll tune called "Puppy Love." Highly recommended!
— Christopher R. Mihm

"...and the Oscar goes to..."

Sometimes the cheese is so good, it's nominated for (and wins) an Academy Award. Name these Oscar winners.

1. In 1931, this horror film was nominated for Best Script and Best Cinematography, and Fredric March took home the Oscar for Best Actor. The 1941 remake with Spencer Tracy was nominated for Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Score.

2. In 1935, Elsa Lanchester starred in this classic that was nominated for Best Sound.

3. In 1943, Claude Rains starred in this horror film that won Oscars for Best Sets and Best Cinematography and was nominated for Best Sound and Best Score.

4. In 1960, Janet Leigh was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in this classic that was also nominated for Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.

5. In 1963, the same director nominated in question #4 put together another classic—this time starring Melanie Griffith's mother—that was nominated for Special Effects. Bonus points if you can name the director and the actress!

As the summer comes to an end and the air begins to cool, back-to-school time is here again...so why not try making some delicious carrot cake doughnuts to give the kids (or yourself) a little something fun (and lighter) to start their school year?!

Carrot Cake Doughnuts

  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
  • 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon each salt, ground nutmeg and cloves
  • 1/3 cup 2% milk
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • Oil for deep-fat frying
GLAZE:
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon finely shredded carrot
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until crumbly, about 2 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in orange peel. Combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, nutmeg and cloves; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Fold in carrots.

Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; roll out to 1/2-in. thickness. Cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. doughnut cutter.

In an electric skillet or deep-fat fryer, heat oil to 375°. Fry doughnuts, a few at a time, for 1-1/2 to 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

For glaze, combine the confectioners' sugar, orange juice, carrot and vanilla; drizzle over warm doughnuts. Sprinkle with walnuts.

Yield: 1-1/2 dozen

This easy recipe will be loved by all, even those who aren't fans of traditional carrot cake! Serve with milk or a hot cup of coffee. My monsters give this confection 5 out of 5 "Steve people."

ENJOY!

You can find this recipe (and many more like it) and its corresponding nutrition information on the Taste of Home website!

Since so many fans and supporters have joined the official Mihmiverse fan club, we wanted to take time to highlight some of these wonderful people!

This month, we interview Monsters faction member Peter K. Flynn!

Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse!

Hi, my name is Peter and I have been addicted to the Mihmiverse for over five years. On good days, I do sound production for local indie films in San Diego and plan to one day be as good a film maker as Mr. Mihm.

When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm?

A DVD of "It Came From Another World!" came to my house courtesy of Netflix. It was love at first sight.

Which of the ten released films is your favorite and why?

The next film Chris will make is my favorite, because I hope there will always be another film (and once that film is released it will be the one after that which will be my favorite). Of the finished films, it would probably be "Danny Johnson Saves the World" because Steve is such an awesome character. (Steve has ways indeed!)

When you joined the fan club, you chose to join the Monsters faction. Why?"

Zombies are a subset of Monsters. Why be exclusive? They're all fantastic! Zombies and Monsters rock!

If you could suggest anything regarding the direction of the future of the Mihmiverse, what would you suggest? What do YOU want to see?

A 1966 style remake of "It Came From Another World!" in color done in the fantastic graphical style of that year combined with the last of the innocent experimental film making of the era. (I've got a camera, some lights, sound equipment, colored gels, groovy locations...)

Interested in joining the official fan club of the films of Christopher R. Mihm? Designed as a way for fans to be more involved in the Mihmiverse and the direction it takes, members are entitled to a myriad of benefits including exclusive merchandise, pre-sale access to cool stuff, invitations to members-only events and much, much more! For around $4 a month (less than the price of most cups of coffee), you too can be a part of the fun. PLUS, every member gets a cool membership card, a hand-signed welcome letter and will be enrolled in one of the two fan club "factions," (Monsters or Moon Zombies) which will be important for future team events, games and contests!

Visit the fan club page at SaintEuphoria.com, the online home of the films of Christopher R. Mihm, for more information. Who knows? Maybe next month we'll be interviewing YOU!
