THIS MONTH IN MIHMIVERSE HISTORY
Since the films of Christopher R. Mihm have existed for over 15 years, we figured digging into them would make for an entertaining addition to this newsletter! Thus, in this new section, aptly titled
This Month in Mihmiverse History, we'll traipse through the "days of Mihmiverse past" and present some of the most interesting events!
"
The Monster of Phantom Lake" was picked up for DVD distribution by Shadow Creek Studios in November of 2006. At the time writer/director Christopher R. Mihm signed the distribution contract, the studio
ALSO agreed to distribute the just finished (at the time) "
It Came From Another World!" and the next film (which hadn't even been
WRITTEN yet), "
Cave Women on Mars." Two short years later and after Mr. Mihm and several Mihmiverse actors were hired by the Shadow Creek Studios, the company unceremoniously went out of business and returned all distribution rights to writer/director Christopher R. Mihm.
Production of "
Destination: Outer Space" was put on hold in November of 2009 when lead actor, Josh Craig, was blessed with the three-week-early arrival of his son! While Mr. Craig was out on "parental leave," writer/director Christopher R. Mihm focused solely on editing as much of the special-effects-heavy-footage-he-had-already-filmed as possible!
The first image from the production of "
Attack of the Moon Zombies" was released in November 2010. Though it didn't provide any real information about the film, it did include a cool "Easter Egg!" Look closely at the image below and you'll see what it was!
The Uncle John's Burger Dog, which began its life as an inside joke between writer/director Christopher R. Mihm and actor Josh Craig and appeared on a fake concession stand poster in "
The Giant Spider," debuted as a real product in November of 2013. In conjunction with a small butcher shop in Albertville, MN, and made from farm-raised beef and pork, the Uncle John's Burger Dog was the "unholy union" of a cheeseburger and hot dog. Unfortunely, the product was very high in sodium and, sadly, never properly caught on with the public, despite its irreverent (though criminally underseen) advertising campaign and incredibly delicious flavor. The product disappeared completely less than a year later.
Finally, "
The Mihmiverse Holiday Special" debuted the week of Thanksgiving in 2021. Designed as a love letter to retro holiday TV specials like 1965's "
A Charlie Brown Christmas" and 1966's "
How the Grinch Stole Christmas," and to pay direct homage to 1964's sci-fi "cheesefest" "
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians," "
The Mihmiverse Holiday Special" serves as a de facto mini-sequel to the 2015 fan-favorite film, "
Danny Johnson Saves the World!"

Welcome to the
Mihmiverse Monthly feature where we talk to
YOU, the fans! Every month, we choose a random Mihmivite and ask them a few Mihmiverse-related questions in an attempt to get to know them better and find out what they
REALLY think about the films of Christopher R. Mihm!
This month, we interview Betty Reynolds!
Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse!
Hello! My name is Betty Reynolds. I was born and raised in Texas, but have lived in Alabama for many, many years. I have two grown children and three grandchildren. My husband and I love movies that are not in the "Hollywood mainstream." During our downtime, we love to find movies to watch!
When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm?
We came across "
The Giant Spider" in or around 2018. We had watched a movie and then looked at the "more like this" section and there it was! We checked it out and loved it! From that point on, we were hooked. We have watched them all over and over again and still love them. Even our nine-year-old grandson loves themhe thinks "
Guns of the Apocalypse" is greatand it is!
If you had to pick just ONE, which of the Mihmiverse films would be your favorite?
It is sooooo hard to pick just one! Gosh, I don't know! I guess if I have to pick one, it would be "
Queen of Snakes." I have probably watched it at least ten times. It's awesome!
Tell us how you, in particular, show your "Mihmiverse pride!"
I constantly recommend the movies to friends. I always put one on when someone drops by. My main thing is telling everyone about them, though.
Where would you like to see the Mihmiverse go in the future?
Well, I think writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, the actors, and everyone who helps make these films are doing a fantastic job! I would love there to be many, many more Mihmiverse movies and for Mr. Mihm to get some major recognition. I would also love if there were a weekly or even monthly show on one of the streaming channels that would play one of the movies and talk about it throughout, sort of like "The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs," only it would be just the Mihmiverse movies.
Want to be interviewed for a future edition of the
Mihmiverse Fan Focus? Send an email to
info@sainteuphoria.com and let us know! Maybe next month the subject will be
YOU!
Nightmare Scenarios
November is traditionally full of dark and stormy nights: nights that are ripe for nightmares. This month, we're dipping into film noir/horror with a quiz about films centering around things that go bump in your sleep. Just match the title with the plot line, and see how well you sleep tonight!
Be careful: Two titles are the same, and two plots are similar! (Note: These cheesy nightmares all predate "
Elm Street" and "
The Shining," so don't expect Freddy or Jack.)
1. "Dementia" (1955)
2. "Nightmare" (1956)
3. "Nightmare" (1964)
4. "Repulsion" (1965)
5. "
Point of Terror" (1971)
A. A New Orleans jazz musician has a nightmare about killing a man in a strange house, and suspects it might be true.
B. A nightclub singer has a nightmare about adultery and murder, and suspects it might be true.
C. A woman who disapproves of her sister's boyfriend sinks into depression and begins to have violent nightmares.
D. No dialogue is spoken in this film about a woman's night of nightmarish experiences on skid row.
E. Janet goes to an exclusive private school, and is plagued by nightmares of her asylum-confined mother.
After Janet is expelled because of this, the dreams get worse.

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Saga of the Viking Women and their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent (1957)
Directed by
Roger CormanStarring
Abby Dalton,
Susan Cabot, and
June Kenney
Better known by it's shortened (and infinitely easier to remember) title, "
Viking Women and the Sea Serpent," this is a great example of what Roger Corman was best at: making classic Z-grade movies that are so bad they become transcendent in their awesomeness! The movie follows a band of models in short-skirted Viking costumes whose men have disappeared somewhere across the sea. Being hearty Viking women, they decide sitting around and waiting is out of the question and instead, load up their own longship and set out to find their men. Not surprisinglysince it's pretty much given away by the titlethey tangle with a terrible special effect of a sea serpent and, barely escaping with their lives, eventually end up in an exotic land inhabited by barbarians and ruled by an iron-fisted despot and his wimpy (and mildly offensive by today's standards) son. Will the Viking women find their men? Will they survive their encounter with the uncivilized horde? Will the one dark-haired (and, naturally, evil and untrustworthy) warrior woman find a way to destroy her golden-haired rival and thus claim her rival's "betrothed" for herself? Does it really matter when you're treated to such terrible dialog, surprisingly intense violence for the era in which the film was made, atrocious special effects, sub-par acting, and enough beef- and cheese-cake to feed an army? The answer is a firm and definite "no." If you really enjoy classic low-budget "drive-in cinema," you need to find a copy of this movie
RIGHT NOW. You will
NOT be sorry!

Most of the films of the Mihmiverse are available on Amazon Video. Sadly, as Amazon continues to revise and rewrite its policies, they have downgraded the entire Mihmiverse catalog from "available with Prime" to rental only. Though this wasn't entirely unexpectedgiven the way the service has been slowly ridding itself of the films of Christopher R. Mihmwe
CANNOT guarantee they will still be there on any given day! So, if Amazon is your preferred place to watch the Mihmiverse, enjoy it while it lasts!
NOTE: Amazon has barred writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (and
MANY other independent filmmakers) from adding any new films to their service. As far as we have been able to figure out, the service is taking a more "curated" approach to its catalog and, unfortunately, does not have any more room for the cheesy goodness of the Mihmiverse! Therefore, if you're interested in watching the newest films of the Mihmiverse, we highly recommend checking out the Mihmiverse Roku channel,
Drive-in Monsters!
