Last year, we began a NEW tradition with the lovingly dubbed "The Night Before The Thing," the first-ever pre-premiere party. The event was a rousing success, so we've decided to hold another one! AND, since "Danny Johnson Saves The World" is designed specifically to appeal to the kid in all of us, we figured nothing was more appropriate than to throw a pizza party!

The evening will begin with a dinner of pizza (naturally) and soda (or water) and continue with other fun, super-secret activities! Writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, the first lady of the Mihmiverse, Stephanie Mihm, and several members of the cast and crew will be in attendance and, like last year, there exists the distinct possibility attendees may see (and rub elbows with) other "famous Mihmiverse faces!"

This event is limited to 40 people ONLY, and due to the size of the venue, once it's sold out, no one else will legally be allowed in—so DO NOT HESITATE! Grab your tickets RIGHT NOW! ALSO, just like last year, for an additional $15 (+$3 for sizes over extra large) those who are interested can pre-order a T-shirt designed exclusively for—and only EVER available at—this event! NOTE: You MUST pre-order a T-shirt to receive one. They will be made on-demand only for those who pre-order. T-shirts will be handed out at the event, and extra T-shirts will NOT be available.

The Night Before The Thing Part II: Pre-Premiere Pizza Party will be held at the LivINN Fridley located at 5201 Central Avenue Northeast in Fridley, MN.

Lobby cards are a form of movie advertising that were quite common from the early days of film, up through the B-movie-rich 1950s and '60s. Usually issued in sets of eight, each card featured a different scene from the film. These days, full sets of lobby cards are highly sought after by collectors.

After releasing lobby card sets for "The Giant Spider," "Attack of the Moon Zombies" and "The Late Night Double Feature," a new set for the movie that started the Mihmiverse, "The Monster of Phantom Lake," is now available—BUT IT IS ALMOST COMPLETELY SOLD OUT!

Designed by Mr. Mihm himself, this set of eight 8.5" x 11" lobby cards depicts scenes from the film and are hand-colorized and stylistically "weathered" to look extra retro! Order now before they're gone, because once they're sold out, they may never be available EVER AGAIN!

$19.99 per set (FREE shipping & handling, even international!)

Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster (1965)
Directed by Robert Gaffney
Starring Robert Reilly, Marilyn Hanold and Lou Cutell

The survivors of an alien atomic war stumble across Earth in their search for "hearty stock" to help replenish their devastated female population. Meanwhile, humans are preparing to send their "best and brightest" on an extended mission into space—their "best and brightest" being an experimental, very-human-appearing android called "Frank." The aliens are shocked to find Earthling technology advanced enough to include rocket-powered flight and, upon viewing Frank's historic launch, incorrectly assume it to be a direct attack on their ship. The aliens counterattack and virtually destroy Frank's rocket, the remains of which crash land in Puerto Rico. Shortly thereafter, the aliens land close by and start collecting random women for their "repopulation" program. An extremely scarred and electronic-brain-damaged Frank (now dubbed a "Frankenstein" by his creators) emerges from the crash and, incapable of rational thought, starts terrorizing the island nation. Frank's designers pinpoint his location and set out to save their creation. What follows is a mixed bag of terrible acting, out-of-place musical interludes, wooden-as-heck dialogue, uneven pacing, and, for good measure, a rampaging space monster. Overall, the film is a unique mish-mash of so-bad-it's-amazing weirdness. On its face, there is very little to recommend about "Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster" and yet, it's hard NOT to recommend for how truly bizarre and FUN it is! This film is a cult-classic for a reason but it certainly won't be everybody's cup of tea. However, if you're even vaguely a fan of B-grade cinema, this film is not to be missed!

Notable Quotables

The years and the quotes are supplied. All YOU have to do is name the classic sci-fi or horror film!

1. (1931) "It's alive! It's alive!"

2. (1933) "'Twas beauty killed the beast."

3. (1951) "My mission here is not to solve your petty squabbles. It concerns the existence of every last creature on Earth."

4. (1956) "No beer, no women, no pool parlors--nothin! Nothin' to do but throw rocks at tin cans and we gotta bring our own tin cans."

5. (1960) "We all go a little mad sometimes."

6. (1963) "Why are they doing this? They said when you got here, the whole thing started. Who are you? What are you? Where did you come from? I think you're the cause of all this. I think you're evil! EVIL!"

Imagine this scenario: your offspring are having some friends over for a Mihmiverse movie marathon and YOU need to feed their monstrous appetites—afterall, ten feature films is a LOT of movies and they'll need to maintain their strength! Have no fear, because I have the BEST recipe to satisfy them AND you! This tasty recipe combines that classic family "go to," the sloppy joe, and the food that almost EVERY kid in the world loves: PIZZA!

Pizza Sloppy Joes

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 jar (14 ounces) pizza sauce
  • 3 ounces sliced turkey pepperoni (about 50 slices), chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 6 hamburger buns, split
  • 6 tablespoons shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
In a large nonstick skillet, cook the beef, onion and pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink. Drain if necessary. Stir in the pizza sauce, pepperoni and herbs. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10 minutes.

Spoon 2/3 cup beef mixture onto each bun; sprinkle with cheese. Place on a baking sheet. Broil 3-4 in. from the heat for 1 minute or until cheese is melted. Replace tops.

Yield: 6 servings

As the title implies, these are SLOPPY (as they should be) so don't forget a fork to get every last bite! My little movie fanatics give this recipe 5 out of 5 "coonskin caps!"

ENJOY!

You can find this recipe (and many more like it) and its corresponding nutrition information on the Taste of Home website!
