THAT WHICH LURKS IN THE DARK IS COMING TOGETHER!
With the impending release of "
The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us," principal photography of next year's Mihmiverse film, "
That Which Lurks in the Dark" continues! Check out the photo below to get your first look at the members of the Phantom Lake Lonely Hearts Club, where you'll see a collection of recognizable faces in roles both familiar and new!
The group (left to right) includes Michelle Makie (last seen as one of Iordanoglou's wives in "
Demon with the Atomic Brain"), Thom Gladhill (who you'll soon get to know as Deputy O'Donnell in "
The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us"), Kira Pontiff (Faith in "
Guns of the Apocalypse"), Tyler Haines (once again portraying his character introduced in "
Demon with the Atomic Brain"), and Rachel Grubb (back as Betty from "
Queen of Snakes").
Principal photography of "
That Which Lurks in the Dark" is scheduled to continue into the late Spring and, should everything go as planned, the film will be released in early 2021!
With the film in active production, we encourage you to
contribute to "
That Which Lurks in the Dark" and get your name in the end credits and help ensure the production is completed!
In writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's first true horror comedy, it's New Year's Eve and the Phantom Lake Lonely Hearts Club is holding its annual celebration. When the night's festivities are interrupted by a distant explosion and subsequent blackout, its members are forced to deal with their personal anxieties in the form of overwhelming darkness, otherworldly be-tentacled creatures, a pair of monster hunting scientists and, most frighteningly, their own awkward quests for love!
For each $25.00 donation, all
contributors will be entitled to having a single name
* of their choosing listed in the
contributors section of the closing credits of the film, a customized, frame-able document certifying their
contribution, and one (
1) copy of the finished film! Additional copies of the film and/or world premiere tickets may be pre-ordered as "add-ons" ($10 each) with the purchase of at least one credit.
Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

This new series consists of 24 individual cards (23 art cards, one cover/checklist) and were personally designed by writer/director Christopher R. Mihm.

With this new set, you'll find a different piece of Mihmiverse art on the front of each card, with a description of the movie in which it belongs on the back!
These sets will be available for an EXTREMELY limited time and in RIDICULOUSLY small quantities. PLUS, certain ultra-rare cards will begin popping up at events and only be available AT THAT EVENT. The first The Art of the Mihmiverse rare card is slated to be found at the forthcoming "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" world premiere!

In addition to many of the films of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm available on Amazon Prime, there are now
OTHER options to stream the Mihmiverse!
First, most of the Mihmiverse catalog is now being offered for on-demand streaming at
Vimeo! Every film accessible through the Mihmiverse
Vimeo page is of the highest quality transfer available to both rent and/or own!
AND, every movie includes a blooper reel with every purchase!
As of the publication of this newsletter, only "
Queen of Snakes" and "
The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!" are missing from the page. However, we continue to add roughly a movie a week, so it'll have the entire collection very soon!
AND, immediately after, we'll begin to add Esperanto language versions!
Second, the Mihmiverse now has its own official Roku channel: Drive-in Monsters!
Drive-in Monsters is an ad-supported channel where you can find all the films of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm
AND a curated collection of special features! We plan to add some really cool, exclusive content over the course of the next twelve months, so we encourage you to add the channel to your Roku lineup.
To find the
Drive-in Monsters channel, simply search for it through your Roku service!
AND, we ask that if you
DO add the channel, give it a star rating! The more stars and ratings we receive, the better we are able to approach higher quality advertisers. The higher the "quality" of our advertisers, the more money the channel earns. The more money the channel earns, the more Mihmiverse content we make! It's a win-win for everyone!
Lastly and most sadly, the films of Christopher R. Mihm are slowly being removed from Amazon Prime. The company has taken an openly "hostile stance" toward independent films on its service. Films of a particularly lower-budget stripe are continuing to be pulled in an attempt by the company to "clean up" its movie selection.
Recently "
It Came From Another World!" joined "
Destination: Outer Space" in being inexplicably pulled from the service. Unfortunately, now that they've been removed, neither can be resubmitted and will
NEVER be reconsidered by the service. There continues to be no explanation beyond vague boilerplate language about "customer quality standards."
So, unfortunately, it appears the Mihmiverse's days on Amazon Prime are numbered. As such, we encourage you to enjoy them through their service while they last...just make sure if you
START a movie,
FINISH it! We've learned that can be a factor in the removal of films because the implication is that a movie that is started but not completed may not be of sufficient "quality" to be on its service!
Once you've finished watching something, give it a star rating...but only if your star rating is
AT LEAST three. Anything below three stars negatively affects the film and potentially drags it toward the "removal threshold." If you feel so inclined, give it a review, but be honest! Tell the world what you think and maybe even let others know that there are
MORE Mihmiverse films available to watch on the service!
THEN, encourage everyone you know to do the same! The more streaming minutes the 'verse gets, the longer the films will remainso feel free to view (and rate!) what's left of the collection!
Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the
Mihmiverse Monthly feature where we talk to
YOU, the fans! Every month, we choose a random Mihmivite and ask them a few Mihmiverse-related questions in an attempt to get to know them better and find out what they
REALLY think about the films of Christopher R. Mihm!
This month, we interview Sean German!
Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse!
Hello, Mihmiverse! I am Sean, a software developer and sometime podcaster. I grew up watching the old bad movies from directors like Kurt Neumann and Gordon Douglas. My mother and I would get greasy take-out and eat while simultaneously laughing with and at the black & white classics.
When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm?
The year was 2017. Kendrick Lamar was humble, Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange were Bette and Joan, and a new podcast, the
Beettlejuice Minute was taking the internet by storm! It's there that I first heard of good new, old bad movies in something called the Mihmiverse. I'd heard the saying, they don't make them like they used to. Well, here was Christopher R. Mihm making them just like they used to! Not with huge budgets and CGI, but with heart and soul. (Editorial note: Mr. Mihm appeared on several episodes of the
Beetlejuice Minute podcast! We highly recommend giving it a listen!)
If you had to pick just ONE, which of the Mihmiverse films would be your favorite?
Ooh, do I have to? Just one? Well, then I've got to go with "
House of Ghosts." As chilling an entry in the genre of eccentric characters trapped in a haunted house as any. Shirley Jackson would be proud.
Tell us how you, in particular, show your "Mihmiverse pride!"
I let the Mihmiverse speak for itself! I give DVDs as gifts, mention the films are available to stream whenever I find out a friend has Amazon Prime, and, of course, I watch them with my mother, just like we used to when I was growing up. I also help keep the Mihmiverse going by
contributing to future productions. I can't wait to watch "
That Which Lurks in the Dark" with mom and see her name in the closing credits!
Where would you like to see the Mihmiverse go in the future?
Perhaps an archaeologist seeks an ancient artifact. Perhaps he or she bears witness to strange powers which cannot be explained by the laws of nature or man. Perhaps the logical scientist is forced to consider questions of faith and forces from a higher plane. Perhaps...

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Little Shop of Horrors (1960)
Directed by
Roger Corman Starring
Jackie Joseph and
Jonathan Haze
Directed by legendary producer Roger Corman and shot in only two days and one night, "
The Little Shop of Horrors" follows young and clumsy flower shop employee Seymour who, after losing his job for messing up an order for the local dentist, tries to get it back by showing his miserly boss a bizarre hybrid plant he's created. Named the "Audrey Jr." ("Audrey II" in the musical) after the shop girl with whom he is enamored, the sickly plant is just strange enough to earn Seymour his job back (and, hopefully, bring a few customers into the shop). The plant fails to thrive until Seymour realizes the only thing it wants is human bloodwhich prompts poor Seymour to give the Audrey, Jr. enough of his own that he becomes anemic. Out of ideas and with no extra blood to spare, Seymour takes a walk along some train tracks and accidentally causes the death of another man. He takes advantage of the situation and feeds the man's remains to his plant, which grows exponentially as a result...unfortunately, Seymour's boss observes the act and, on the verge of contacting the police, changes his mind after seeing the line of people waiting to see the Audrey, Jr. What follows is a darkly humorous story involving a sadistic dentist, a demanding, blood-crazed talking plant, a hackneyed love story, an early on-screen appearance by Jack Nicholson, clueless cops, and a rising pile of dead bodies who quickly become plant food. Though similar in many ways, the musical deviates from the original Roger Corman film in several key areas. If you've seen the film version of the musical, you know it ends on a happy Hollywood note...the original film, not so much! If you're a fan of the musical but have never seen the original film
OR you're a fan of old B-movies (which, I'm guessing you are since you're reading this newsletter!), there are few as original or fun as "
The Little Shop of Horrors!" Highly recommended!

Back in Black!
Below is a partial list of classic (and cheesy) horror films with the word "Black" in the title.
If you can match them to the plot lines in the second list, you can "paint yourself" a colorful trivia expert!
1. (1954) "Creature From the Black Lagoon"
2. (1956) "The Black Sleep"
3. (1957) "The Black Scorpion"
4. (1959) "Horrors of the Black Museum"
5. (1960) "Black Sunday"
6. (1964) "
The Black Torment"

B. A frustrated writer wants accurate crimes for his next book, so he hypnotizes his assistant and forces him to do the deeds.
C. In this Italian film (overdubbed in English), a vengeful witch and her fiendish servant return from the grave and begin a bloody campaign to possess the body of the witch's beautiful look-alike descendant.
D. A strange prehistoric beast lurks in the Amazon jungle. A group of scientists try to capture it and bring it back to civilization for study.

F. Volcanic activity unleashes monsters from beneath the Earth who wreak havoc in the rural countryside.
