CURRENT NEWS
As the upper Midwest slowly marches toward Spring, the Mihmiverse production team is hard at work making movie magic! First, principal photography of "Guns of the Apocalypse," writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's "post-apocalyptic spaghetti Mid-western," has officially begun!

The first set of scenes to be shot found actors Kira Pontiff and Alice Mihm playing opposite Mihmiverse mainstay Douglas Sidney. Mr. Sidney, who last appeared as John Baker in "Weresquito: Nazi Hunter," is listed as playing an enigmatic character called "The Reverend." For further proof of his involvement, check out the first still from the new film below!

In addition to Mr. Sidney (left), the other person in the photo is Addison Pennington (whose first role in any Mihmiverse film was as McCarthy in "Demon with the Atomic Brain") as a nameless character known only as a "Death Dealer."

Second, within days of the publication of this newsletter, principal photography of the OTHER Mihmiverse film in production ("Queen of Snakes") will begin with a scene taking place in the auditorium of the Heights Theater! The Heights Theater is located in Columbia Heights, MN and is the location where EVERY single Mihmiverse world premiere has been held!

The scene to be filmed will feature two VERY familiar faces: Rachel Grubb, who was last seen as Leisl in "Weresquito: Nazi Hunter," and Daniel R. Sjerven. Mr. Sjerven also appeared in "Weresquito: Nazi Hunter" in a small role, but is best known as newspaper reporter Howard Johnson in "The Giant Spider."

The films of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm are 100% crowd-funded by the fans and, since you're reading this newsletter, we'll ASSUME you're PROBABLY included in this elite group! As such, with both "Guns of the Apocalypse" and "Queen of Snakes" in full production, the Mihmiverse needs YOU to make it all possible!

Contribute to one or both of the films TODAY and, not only will you be directly responsible for the creation of the Mihmiverse, you'll be entitled to have a single name* of your choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film(s), a customized, framable document certifying your contribution and one (1) copy of the finished film(s)!

Additional copies of the film(s) and/or world premiere tickets may be pre-ordered as "add-ons" ($10 each) with the purchase of at least one credit! Credits can even be given as gifts! What's more unique and/or special than your loved one seeing their name in the end credits of a movie AND on the IMDb?

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953)
Directed by Eugène Lourié
Starring Paul Hubschmid and Paula Raymond

Nuclear testing (what else causes these things to happen?) in the arctic thaws an out-of-control, man-eating dinosaur that makes its way to the U.S. and wreaks havoc upon its citizens!

Inspired by a Ray Bradbury short story, "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" is another showcase for stop-motion special effects master Ray Harryhausen's work. The story is delightfully preposterous (the best kind!) with the acting and directing a perfect showcase for the types of films the Mihmiverse seeks to emulate. In addition, the movie is worth it for every second the giant creature is on screen, especially during the particularly thrilling Coney Island Roller Coaster finale!

Highly recommended!

IMPORTANT MOMENTS IN SCIENCE with DR. BOB TESLA
For this month's Important Moment in Science, I've decided to go for something that is a little more immediate than my usual picks. Usually, things need time for society to reflect on and decide if a moment was truly important, but we had something happen this past month that, years down the road, may not be considered very important...but I doubt there will ever be a moment cooler than this. I'm writing, of course, about the fastest Tesla Roadster ever and its journey in SPACE!

Really, the important moment was the successful launch of SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket, the most powerful rocket engine currently in service. This was a test launch of the Falcon Heavy and these are usually done with a weighted load to simulate a payload, but SpaceX (and Tesla Motors) CEO Elon Musk decided to do this with a little more whimsy and style. Instead of a simple dummy payload, he launched his cherry-red Tesla Roadster with a mannequin in a spacesuit (I really hope that's a mannequin), posed in the driver seat and blasting David Bowie's "Life on Mars" on the radio!

It broadcast back footage of the car orbiting the Earth for 4 hours. While this looked like they were trying to recreate the opening of "Heavy Metal," it was actually a test to make sure the rocket could survive the heavy radiation of the van Allen belts around Earth. After that, the rocket engines were re-ignited and sent the Roadster on an orbit a little bit past Mars! It's traveling at more than 7,000 mph away from Earth! It will actually come very close to the planet around October 1st, 2020 on its second orbit, assuming there are no interplanetary car thieves.

The other part of the test launch went almost, but not quite, perfectly. The Falcon Heavy is designed to be reusable by having the boosters return to Earth for the next launch. Well, in this case, two out of three ain't bad. The two side boosters landed on their recovery pads in a thrilling simultaneous landing but the central first stage booster had a partial engine failure on the return causing it to crash into the ocean. That's pretty good for a test launch! I've had test launches go much much worse!

This rocket was specifically built to be powerful enough to send people to Mars. The Falcon Heavy might be the important moment in SCIENCE, but the Tesla Roadster is the awesome one! Now, I need to try to get Elon to return my emails about royalties owed to my brother and me!

Join Midnight Monster Movies with Dr. Bob on April 7th at the Drexel Theatre in Columbus for the Ohio premiere of "Demon with the Atomic Brain!"

We even include rehearsal backing tracks that fully match the music printed in the libretto and on the cast recording CD!
