SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
The Mihmiverse is on a roll!

With the impending completion of "Queen of Snakes," writer/director Christopher R. Mihm has decided to attempt to squeeze ANOTHER film into next year's schedule! This time, a familiar pair of scientists (Drs. Edwards and Gabriel) return to battle be-tentacled beasts and lovesick lonely hearts in "That Which Lurks in the Dark!"

It's New Year's Eve and the Phantom Lake Lonely Hearts Club is holding its annual celebration. When the night's festivities are interrupted by a distant explosion and subsequent blackout, its members are forced to deal with their personal anxieties in the form of overwhelming darkness, otherworldly be-tentacled creatures, a pair of monster hunting scientists and, most frighteningly, their own awkward quests for love!

Should everything come together exactly the way Mr. Mihm is hoping, "That Which Lurks in the Dark" will premiere toward the end of next year, making 2019 the first year since it began that will see the official release of TWO Mihmiverse movies (not including "The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!," which technically was not a "film")!

Following the overwhelming success of previous contribution programs for writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's past films, contributor credits for "That Which Lurks in the Dark" are NOW AVAILABLE for purchase!

For each $25.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name* of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film, a customized, frame-able document certifying their participation in the program and one (1) copy of the finished film! Additional copies of the film and/or world premiere tickets may be pre-ordered as "add-ons" ($10 each) with the purchase of at least one credit.

DON'T FORGET!

Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

THE YEAR IN REVIEW
Happy 2019!

Since the very first issue of the original Phantom Lake Almanac (which was the title of this newsletter before becoming the Mihmiverse Monthly in August 2011), the January edition has traditionally served to provide an in-depth look back at all the significant Mihmiverse-related events that happened during the previous year.

This month, in honor of such a long-held tradition, we celebrate the cool stuff that happened in the Mihmiverse during 2018!
JANUARY

Last year began on a quiet note, with pre-production of "Guns of the Apocalypse" in full bloom. With so much of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's attention focused on creating the new film (and his other yet-to-announced production), the only significant event in January was that every Mihmiverse film had been officially added to Amazon Prime!
. . .
If you're a member of Amazon Prime, you can watch every Mihmiverse film AND "The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!" FOR FREE! If you're not an Amazon Prime member, you can still rent or buy each film individually...or you COULD visit the DVDs section of the merchandise page at SaintEuphoria.com and pick up your own copies!

Remember, as you binge watch the entire Mihmiverse "saga," the films can be viewed two different ways: in release order or in-universe chronological order!

Release order is easy. Simply watch them in the order they were made. Always start with "The Monster of Phantom Lake" (2006). If you're watching them on Amazon Prime, the release year is listed with the title. If you're watching them on DVD or Blu-ray, refer to the back cover of each for the release date (or click HERE for a list).

In-universe chronological order goes this way: "Weresquito: Nazi Hunter," "The Monster of Phantom Lake," "It Came From Another World!," "Terror from Beneath the Earth," "House of Ghosts," "The Giant Spider," "The Wall People," "Danny Johnson Saves the World," "Demon with the Atomic Brain," "Queen of Snakes" (in post production), "Attack of the Moon Zombies," "Cave Women on Mars," "Destination: Outer Space," "X: The Fiend from Beyond Space" and, finally, "Guns of the Apocalypse!"
FEBRUARY

Principal photography of "Guns of the Apocalypse" officially began in February BUT, the biggest of surprise of the month was that writer/director Christopher R. Mihm announced the OTHER movie he was making, "Queen of Snakes!" Also, "Demon with the Atomic Brain" was nominated for a Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award for Best Independent Film, joining several past Mihmiverse films in receiving such an honor.
. . .
Even though "Queen of Snakes" is currently in the post-production stage, we STILL need funds to finish it, to be used for things like DVD manufacturing, printing costs for tickets and posters, planning the premiere, etc. etc.! All of these things come at a hefty price!

What's more unique and/or special than your loved one seeing their name in the end credits of a movie AND on the IMDb?

MARCH

March turned into a uniquely busy month! Principal photography of "Queen of Snakes" began and continued for "Guns of the Apocalypse," taking place in brutal outdoor Minnesota winter conditions.

The "Cave Women on Mars" 10th anniversary event was announced and the final episode of the Mihmiverse Bonfire Podcast was released. Featuring Mihmiverse regular Catherine Hansen, the episode served as an alternate commentary on her first role in a Mihm film as space pirate Yureena Null in "Destination: Outer Space."
APRIL

In April, it was announced that a Mihmiverse-themed cookbook with recipes like The Meatloaf of Phantom Lake, Duck with the Atomic Braise and Greens of the Apocalypse would be published but, sadly, it turned out to be another April Fool's Day joke. As the month raged onward, principal photography of both Mihmiverse films took up the bulk of the production crew's time.

The first Mihmiverse Fan Focus interview appeared this month and it was revealed that "Demon with the Atomic Brain" did NOT win the Rondo (a feat, to date, that only "House of Ghosts" has achieved).

Also, despite taking place on the eve of a record-setting April blizzard (which also forced a severe re-shuffling of the production schedule of "Guns of the Apocalypse"), the "Cave Women on Mars" 10th anniversary celebration was a rousing success!
MAY

After suffering several delays due to inclement weather, principal photography of "Guns of the Apocalypse" was completed in May 21st!

Also in May: writer/director Christopher R. Mihm returned to the Texas Frightmare Weekend and set a new sales record! While there, Mr. Mihm was interviewed by the the fine folks at the Indie Film Café.

Check out the video below!

JUNE

While production of "Queen of Snakes" and post-production of "Guns of the Apocalypse" moved forward unabated, Mihmivites got their first official look at the title creature of "Queen of Snakes" in June!

JULY

Principal photography of "Queen of Snakes" wrapped up early in July, just in time for writer/director Christopher R. Mihm and the entire Mihm family to trek out to Phoenixville, PA to represent the Mihmiverse at one of the greatest classic film events in the world: Blobfest!

Two short weeks later, Mr. Mihm signed off on the final edit of "Guns of the Apocalypse" and the date of the film's world premiere was set in stone.
AUGUST

As the heat of August descended upon North America, advance tickets to the world premiere of "Guns of the Apocalypse" went on sale.

Also in August: The trailer for "Guns of the Apocalypse" was released (see below), the film's poster design was revealed, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm hosted a double feature for charity at the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson, TX, and the Mihmiverse returned to the Blue Moon Dine-in Theatre at the Minnesota State Fair!

SEPTEMBER

"Guns of the Apocalypse" was officially released on September 26th at a nearly sold-out world premiere at the Heights Theater in Columbia Heights, MN! The film was VERY WELL received by almost everyone in attendance and, for the first time in 13 years, Mr. Mihm ran out of DVDs to sell at the event!

Literally the DAY AFTER the film's world premiere, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm was on an airplane flying across the country to support the film by personally presenting a screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson, TX and appear as a guest at the Granbury Paranormal Expo in Granbury, TX.
. . .
In writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's "post-apocalyptic-spaghetti-Midwestern," a man with no name is forced into a world of danger and bloodshed after he saves a scientist and a gifted child from a horde of radiation-scarred mutants. Though he would prefer to stay hidden until he can escape to a new life, something about the child—and the murderous "Death Dealers" hunting her—makes him realize he has no choice but to protect her or risk being responsible for the potential extinction of the human race!

The DVD contains a high quality digital transfer of the film and several exclusive special features, including a blooper reel, two photo galleries, hidden surprises, feature-length commentary with writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, English subtitles, Esperanto audio & subtitles and much more!

Feature Run Time: 1 hour, 28 minutes. Black & White/Color, Widescreen, NOT RATED.

OCTOBER

Writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (and several others involved with the films) spent the majority of the month of October traveling around the country to promote the Mihmiverse and the release of "Guns of the Apocalypse."

From the Lake Charles Film Festival in Lake Charles, LA to a pair of very popular screenings of "Guns of the Apocalypse" at Midnight Monster Movies with Dr. Bob in Columbus, OH, the Mihmiverse was represented far and wide at the Slash & Bash Film Festival in Topeka, KS, the Jack-o-Lantern Jaunt in Mukwonago, WI, Crypticon in Minneapolis, MN, and many others, in what continued to be the most popular month for "new old, good bad" movie events!
NOVEMBER

As the weather cooled once again, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's 2018 event calendar came to a close at Waxacon in Waxahachie, TX.

Also in November: another Mihmiverse holiday ornament was released, this year celebrating the fan-favorite bat monster from "Terror from Beneath the Earth." The 2019 Mihmiverse wall calendar went on sale.
DECEMBER

December arrived and amidst the hubbub of the holidays, Mr. Mihm continued to edit "Queen of Snakes." Though the work was ongoing, such great progress was being made, he found enough time to start the script for his NEXT film, "That Which Lurks in the Dark!"

For more information about the exciting things coming to the Mihmiverse, be sure to listen to this month's episode of the Mihmiverse Monthly Audiocast!

Also in December: the first ever Mihmiverse Mystery Box was made available...and quickly sold out!

MIHMIVERSE FAN FOCUS
Welcome to the newest feature in the Mihmiverse Monthly where we talk to YOU, the fans! Every month, we choose a random Mihmivite and ask them a few Mihmiverse-related questions in an attempt to get to know them better and find out what they REALLY think about the films of Christopher R. Mihm!

This month, we interview Justin Whiting!

Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse!
Hello all! My name is Justin Allen Whiting. I work as a musician/DJ (JAW) and own a small music producing company called MINNEA Productions. Most of the time when I am working on music or just hanging around the house, I'll have some type of movie playing in the background, even if its on mute. Many of those times it's a Christopher R. Mihm movie. There's something about the creativity factor that helps me work. I am also a big time horror fan (as I'm sure it's easy to already assume). I am also a semi-pro Football player for the Med City Freeze and I play the quarterback position, so music, movies, and football are my life.

When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm?
I first discovered the Mihmiverse by accident about six years ago when I ran into Mr. Mihm himself at the Crypticon convention in Minneapolis. I had driven four hours to come by myself, ended up buying several DVDs and spending some time talking with him. He signed my copies, I took them home and immediately ended up watching all four of them. I was immediately hooked and very excited knowing this was art coming from Minnesota (my home).

If you had to pick just ONE, which of the Mihmiverse films would be your favorite?
If I were to pick only one, my favorite is "House of Ghosts." I believe that is because of my strong appreciation for spirits, and it was the first movie I watched which got me hooked.

Tell us how you, in particular, show your "Mihmiverse pride!"
I have shown so many people my love for the Mihmiverse! I am always sharing the movies with others and make it a tradition to get the newest movies right when they're released. I know how much work goes into putting things like this together and I have so much appreciation for the work that goes into it.

Where would you like to see the Mihmiverse go in the future?
I am very excited to get the Blu-ray copies of the movies that will be coming out and I truly cannot wait for the Mihmiverse to continue to expand. I love the way the movies flow into each other with recurring parts and pieces from previous films. I am also very excited to watch the fame of the franchise grow and grow. Thank you all for the hard work you put into everything. WE TRULY APPRECIATE IT ALL!

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Giant Behemoth (1959)
Directed by Eugène Lourié
Starring Gene Evans and André Morell

In what is basically a cheap knock-off of "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" (which was also directed by Eugène Lourié), "The Giant Behemoth" concerns an overgrown lizard (created, of course, by the dumping of atomic waste into the water supply...which sounds vaguely familiar...) that is terrorizing a familiar locale, this time London. The acting and directing are wonderfully B-grade but extremely fun. The special effects fare slightly better, with the stop-motion title creature created by the man who brought the original "King Kong" to life, Willis H. O'Brien. Overall, it's a passable and fun film and, if you're a fan of giant monster movies, this one is definitely worth a look!

Highly recommended!

THE TRIVIA CORNER
Richard Carlson

In 1912, Richard Carlson was born in Minnesota (Home state of the Mihmiverse!) and before he passed away in 1977, he had 108 IMDB credits—including some high-quality cheesefest films. He wasn't as well known as some of his contemporaries, but he could do it all: comedy, drama, sci-fi and horror. Below are some examples. See if you can match the plots with the films!

1. Dr. Jerry Stewart (Carlson) is a scientist frantically trying to track down a substance called "serranium," a man-made element that is growing so fast, it will throw the Earth out of its orbit in less than 24 hours!
2. Dr. Jackson (Carlson) somehow ends up in a haunted house with Abbott and Costello.
3. Carlson is part of an all-star cast that also includes Suzanne Pleshette and Yvonne DeCarlo in a story about a group of people being killed one-by-one by telekinesis.
4. David Reed (Carlson) is part of a group of scientists trying to capture a monster from the Amazon jungle so they can bring it back to civilization for study.
5. Bob Hope, Paulette Goddard, Anthony Quinn and Richard Carlson: 'nuff said.
6. John Putnam (Carlson) and Ellen Fields (Barbara Rush) have a pretty good idea why the townsfolk are acting awfully strange. Russell Johnson ("Gilligan's Island") co-stars.

A. "The Ghost Breakers" (1940)
B. "Hold That Ghost" (1941)
C. "The Magnetic Monster" (1953)
D. "It Came From Outer Space" (1953)
E. "Creature From the Black Lagoon" (1954)
F. "The Power" (1968)
