in full production! Principal photography officially got underway just a few weeks before the publication of this newsletter and saw the return of the "Steve People," the alien puppets last seen in 2015's "
In this Mihmiverse "retro-Christmas-Special-esque" short film, we'll be introduced to an adorable alien named Stu who enlists the help of young Evelyn Johnson (played once again by Alice Mihm, last seen in 2020's "
") to find his lost uncle Steve, the fan-favorite alien puppet character last seen saving the world with Evelyn's older brother Danny. In the process, Evelyn & Stu find themselves on an adventure to faraway locations like the North Pole and outer space and, in the process, learn the true meaning of the season!
The exclusive, behind-the-scenes photo seen here was taken during filming and shows Alice and her puppet co-star (who is being puppeteered and voiced by the guy behind Danny Johnson, Alice's real-life brother, Elliott Mihm) in action!
Should everything come together the way writer/director Christopher R. Mihm hopes, the "

Welcome to the
Mihmiverse Monthly feature where we talk to
YOU, the fans! Every month, we choose a random Mihmivite and ask them a few Mihmiverse-related questions in an attempt to get to know them better and find out what they
REALLY think about the films of Christopher R. Mihm!
This month, we interview Christopher Page!
Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse!
My name is Christopher Page, and I was born, raised and still live in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Which is about as far away from any good monster movie action as you can get, I think. News of the town being eaten by a giant cockroach was greatly exaggerated.) If I'm permitted a little shameless plugging, I've hosted two podcasts for many years now.
Time Shifters reviews films and television, some recent, but usually within the last 20-25 years, especially those that we may have missed at time of release. I have interviews with Mihmiverse monster-maker extraordinaire Mitch Gonzales and "General Castle" himself, Mark Haider. (Somehow I have not yet gotten Mr. Mihm himself... must make an effort to change that.)
Orphaned Entertainment focuses on films and radio that are in the public domain. So many amazing films, all creating the foundations for the films we watch today.
I have been a fan of sci-fi and monster flicks for as long as I can remember. I was raised on "
Star Trek," and that lead me to search for and watch anything with space ships and laserswhich were often aimed at wonderful monsters. Everything from Godzilla to giant insects, blood thirsty carrots... and even gorillas in diving helmets!
When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm?
It must have been the spring of 2012. I was attending the Denver Starfest and stumbled onto a small table of DVDs in the crowded hallway typically reserved for authors. Being more drawn to buying movies than books, this piqued my interest. I spoke to the gentleman (not Mr. Mihm and I, for the life of me, cannot remember who it may have been) manning the table and learned what I was even looking at. His description intrigued me and led me to feel the need to speak to this "Mihm" guy. I was directed to where he was last seen and I did indeed find him. We spoke of what he was doing and whyand I was sold on the idea. I went back to table and purchased the first film, "
The Monster of Phantom Lake," and the most recently released at the time, "
Attack of the Moon Zombies." ("
House of Ghosts" was due for release but not yet available.)
When I got home, I don't think I made it halfway through "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" before I knew I was going to be ordering all the others... which I did!
If you had to pick just ONE, which of the Mihmiverse films would be your favorite?
This gets a little harder to answer as I continue to re-watch the films. On my first watch-through, not all of them really "did it" for me. It wasn't until I revisited the films that I started to appreciate each of them more, and maybe each one a little differently from one another.
I think I was comparing each to "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" and thinking they didn't hold up to the high bar that that one set. But, while I was re-watching his films, I realized that Mr. Mihm was experimenting, and developing himself as a filmmaker. Once I realized that each film was more reminiscent of different classic films, I found new love for each of them.
All that being said, my heart will always belong to my first Mihmiverse movie, "
The Monster of Phantom Lake." It is such a wonderful movie. I love its familiar 1950s monster movie theme, its "
Looney Tunes" quality writing with the occasional innuendos that "big kids" might get, but are just "something silly" to the little kids. So much heart and love oozes out of that movie and I just enjoy it so much!
Tell us how you, in particular, show your "Mihmiverse pride!"
I'm always eager to share the Mihmiverse with people. I've shared my copy of "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" on several occasions and I'm pretty sure each time it resulted in a new fan. I have several of the posters adorning my wall, as well as a "gold" record of "
A-Rockin', A-Rollin', All The Way A-Ramblin'" right next to my piece of the Phantom Lake monster. Pocket Steve helps keep my son safe from potential wall creatures, and the Phantom Lake monster holiday ornament finds a spot on the Christmas tree not just once... but twice!
Where would you like to see the Mihmiverse go in the future?
Another hard question. Like I said, I love that the films have evolved and changed over the years, but I do worry about them falling too far astray from that sweet spot that I feel "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" or "
The Giant Spider" fill. I'll confess something here that I've not mentioned to any of the Mihmiverse peoples: I've not yet watched "
Weresquito: Nazi Hunter." I supported it, I bought it, but have never cracked the case. It, by description, seems so far removed from all the others, I don't know... it just frightens me. This is something that I
WILL rectify, maybe even by the time you read this.
I think any fear I have of it losing its way is a bit unfounded. The recent projects, which I know were out of necessity due to the "COVID-pocalypse," but they look as though they are solidly in that aforementioned sweet spot! Really looking forward to them!
If push came to shove, and I
HAD to say something, it would be great to see some past creatures resurrected and maybe even a multi-monster story. Perhaps the Phantom Lake monster could find his way into an underground grotto to discover the bat creature where the two strike out together to terrorize a nearby town!

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
Day the World Ended (1955)
Directed by
Roger Corman Starring
Richard Denning and
Lori Nelson
The world is decimated by an atomic war and a small band of disparate survivors huddle together in a remote mountain cabin. Tensions run high amongst them as they desperately attempt to find meaning in the aftermath of humanity's destruction. Though a perfect set-up for a deep examination of the human condition and the cold war, this is ultimately a Roger Corman movie. Thus, all depth is quickly (though lovingly) replaced by cheesy monster suits and even more dubious science when, naturally, the irradiated fallout causes anyone exposed to large enough doses to mutate into three-eyed creatures with telepathic abilities that want nothing more than to be wild, mutant animals. Seriously, that's the plot -- and it's great. The acting is way better than you'd expect, with B-movie veteran Richard Denning turning in a particularly noteworthy performance. The overall sense of dread and horror that would (I'm assuming) come with the end of the human race is there and quite effectively done. All in all, this film from "drive-in-movie-master" Roger Corman is surprisingly good, albeit still "bad-in-a-good-way." Definitely worth your time!
