CURRENT NEWS
Mihmiverse news has been shockingly difficult to come by this past month, but it's not because NOTHING is happening! On the contrary, A LOT has been happening behind the scenes where writer/director Christopher R. Mihm has spent every possible working moment of March editing the next great Mihmiverse film, "Annihilate All Humans!"

Normally, by this time, Mr. Mihm would have officially announced the title of next year's project. However, since THIS year's movie contains so many special effects (which take an inordinate amount of time to compose and edit), Mr. Mihm hasn't even had a moment to think about which movie comes next, let alone write a script! Though waiting for an announcement may seem distressing, you can be assured that it's only because writer/director Christopher R. Mihm is doing EVERYTHING in his power to make sure "Annihilate All Humans!" is one of the best examples of what he's capable of doing!

Given that some of the most special-effects-heavy Mihmiverse films include "The Giant Spider" and "Demon with the Atomic Brain," it should put this forthcoming flying-saucer-attack epic in good company! Either way, "Annihilate All Humans!" is still very much on pace for release later this summer!

In the meantime, we've received yet another AWESOME still from the new film which, according to Mr. Mihm, comes from a sequence he put together specifically for the Australian Mihmiverse fans! Check it out below to see exactly why!

Given everything we've seen up to this point, let us be the first to declare that summer can't get here soon enough! The eventual release of "Annihilate All Humans!" is the reason why!

In "Annihilate All Humans!," the world is under attack by flying saucers and only top scientists Dr. Edwards (Mike Cook) and Dr. Gabriel (James Norgard) can put an end to their unearthly aggression! Unfortunately, they have no idea it's even happening because they've been kidnapped by General Castle (Mark Haider) and taken to a remote cabin in the deep woods for some unsolicited rest & relaxation! Can our heroes find their way back to civilization in time to stop the alien menace, or will the seemingly unstoppable space invaders succeed in their quest to ANNIHILATE ALL HUMANS!?

Don't forget! The Mihmiverse is only made possible by contributor credits, and we need all the help we can get! For each $20.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name* of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film and a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution!

IMPORTANT! Physical media copies of the finished film are NOT automatically included with a basic contribution. If you would like to be guaranteed a DVD or Blu-Ray of the film when it is released, you MUST order it separately (with the purchase of at least one credit)!

Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

Becoming an contributor does not entitle the participant to ANY ownership WHATSOEVER of the finished film or associated elements.

JOIN US FOR A SECRET MOVIE NIGHT!

If you're anywhere near the Plymouth, Minnesota area on Wednesday, April 12th, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm will be a "special presenter" during the Secret Movie Night at the Willow Creek Emagine Theater!

The Secret Movie Night is a monthly event that is mostly self-explanatory: a movie is selected and screened, but attendees don't know what classic movie they're going to see until it starts! In addition to the film screening, special guests are invited along to help introduce the film and participate in Q & A sessions afterwards. The fact that Mr. Mihm will be the guest should tell you something about the nature of the film being presented!

It's important to note that, sadly, the film will NOT be a Mihmiverse movie. Still, Mr. Mihm DID have a hand in the film's selection and, if you love the films of the Mihmiverse, it's a safe bet you're definitely going to like the movie Mr. Mihm has chosen! The event starts at 7:00pm and tickets will go on sale closer to the event date.

Lastly, April 12th is ALSO the 15th anniversary of the release of "Cave Women on Mars," which originally debuted on April 12th, 2008!

MIHMIVERSE FAN FOCUS
Welcome to the Mihmiverse Monthly feature where we talk to YOU, the fans! Every month, we choose a random Mihmivite and ask them a few Mihmiverse-related questions in an attempt to get to know them better and find out what they REALLY think about the films of Christopher R. Mihm!

This month, we interview Darrell Davey!

Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse!
Hello! My name is Darrell Davey and I am the owner and head designer for Oaken Hollow Games out of Cloquet, Minnesota. I have been into horror, sci-fi, and Halloween for as long as I can remember, all of which are integral parts of what led me to create the All Hallows' Eve board game as a love letter to the leaf strewn streets of yore. I use board games as my storytelling medium, giving friends and family a world to play in and a reason to gather around the table to create memories together!

When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm?
I found out about the films of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm during my time at University of Wisconsin-River Falls where I was studying film and theater. My professor, Erik Johnson, showed us "The Monster of Phantom Lake" and clips from several other Mihm films to illustrate to us how effectively day-to-day items were used as props and set dressing. I was hooked immediately and dove head-first into the Mihmiverse. I found it so fascinating to see modern-made movies capture the "vibe" and tropes of those classic B-films I had grown up with as a kid, especially when I learned that they were local! It was very reaffirming to know someone could make something so cool here in the land of the frozen north.

If you had to pick just ONE, which of the Mihmiverse films would be your favorite?
If I had to pick only one film to keep, hands down it would be "The Monster of Phantom Lake" Though I think the others have only improved with time, and some like "Guns of the Apocalypse" are a refreshing departure from the B-Film classic feels, I will always come back to the one that got me into them in the first place. Watching this movie helped me find creative and practical ways to shoot some of the short films I was working on at the time. Though it's rare that I film much these days, I still use many of the tricks I learned from watching these movies when I do.

Tell us how you, in particular, show your "Mihmiverse pride!"
Often when I am working on a new game, especially when making new monsters for All Hallows' Eve, I will have movies from the Mihmiverse on in the background. During the dark times of 2020 and beyond, my friends and I would gather every Friday virtually on Discord, find a movie we all could get access to and press "play" at the same time. More often than not, we watched one of the many choices the Mihmiverse has to offer. They are great to come back to and show to new people.

Where would you like to see the Mihmiverse go in the future?
I always love to see more creature-features come out into the world, but I'd also like to see some other genres get the "Mihm treatment." "Guns of the Apocalypse" was a fun breath of fresh air and I would love to see more like it. Who knows, maybe someday the horrors from All Hallows' Eve will get their chance to clash with the Mihmiverse Monsters! Regardless of where it goes, I will always be glad to see new Mihmiverse-related stuff come out.

If you would like to find out more about the world of All Hallows' Eve or Oaken Hollow Games and everything we have to offer, we would love to have you be part of our Facebook group, find us on Instagram and YouTube, or reach out to me personally at oakenhollowgames@gmail.com!

Stay Spooky,
Darrell Davey

THE TRIVIA CORNER
Dinosaurs? Dino-mite!

The history of film is filled with movies about dinosaurs, and the golden age of cheese (1945-65) was filled with black and white "Jurassic classic" B-movies!

This month—and next—we'll be testing your "creature feature" knowledge. List #1: Title and year of release. List #2: plot points and info. Match 'em up correctly, and you'll be "Caveman (or woman) of the Month!" (Note: This is a Godzilla-free quiz!)

1. "Unknown Island" (1948)
2. "Two Lost Worlds" (1950)
3. "Lost Continent" (1951)
4. "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" (1953)
5. "King Dinosaur" (1955)
6. "The Beast of Hollow Mountain" (1956)

A. Four astronauts travel to an ancient planet called Nova in hopes of finding suitable conditions for an Earth colony. What they find instead are prehistoric animals—including a mastodon. The late Bert I. Gordon directed.
B. An adventure seeker and his fiancé sail the South Pacific on a ship with an alcoholic captain. A love triangle, a mutiny, and deadly dinosaurs await.
C. Cesar Romero and "Leave It to Beaver's" Hugh Beaumont are sent to retrieve a radioactive rocket which has crashed on a South Pacific Island. When they finally find it, they also find a jungle full of dinosaurs.
D. In 1830, an American clipper ship is attacked by pirates in the South Pacific. (Where else?) First mate Kirk is injured, and is sent to nearby Australia, where he falls in love with Elaine, who is engaged to Martin. Somehow, the pirates find Kirk and Elaine, kidnap them, and take them to an island... which just happens to be full of dinosaurs. "Gunsmoke's" James Arness plays Kirk.
E. A hibernating dinosaur in the Arctic is awakened by an atomic blast and makes its way down through Canada, and into the US leaving death and destruction in its path. This was one of the first "atomic-monster films," and it was based on "The Fog," a short story by Ray Bradbury.
F. This one's a "horror/western!" At the turn of the 20th century, farmers and cattle are disappearing in northern Mexico. Some say the area is cursed. Jimmy, Felipe, and Manuel ride into the area anyway... and guess what they find!

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
Village of the Giants (1965)
Directed by Bert I. Gordon
Starring Beau Bridges, Tommy Kirk, and Ron Howard

In Bert I. Gordon's entry into the mid-1960s "teensploitation" genre (which is best known for the Frankie Avalon & Annette Funicello-led Beach Party films), a group of rambunctious "city teens" crash their car outside the fictional town of Hainesville, CA. Next, they stumble upon a young genius (named, ironically, "Genius") played by awkward preadolescent, future-Academy-Award-winning director Ron Howard. Genius has invented a goo which makes everything it ingests grow to gargantuan size. Seeing the money-making potential of Genius' discovery, the teens steal a sample of it to experiment on themselves. After each kid eats a portion of the goo, they grow to 30-foot-tall giants and proceed to impose their oversized will upon the good people of Hainesville by cutting it off from the outside world. They also dance a lot—A LOT—and act exactly like obnoxious, bratty, overprivileged teens would if they'd grown to Godzilla-esque size, even going so far as to kidnap the local town Sheriff's daughter as "insurance" against any potential uprising by the locals. While the adults of the town meekly accept their fate, the good kids of Hainesville take it upon themselves to fight back, hatching a plan that should "knock the interlopers down to size," and hopefully save everyone in the process. This film is another in director Bert I. Gordon's oeuvre that involves normal creatures growing to fantastical size. In fact, he more-or-less made it his calling card in most of his filmography. "Village of the Giants" isn't his BEST film, but it is by far one of the most fun! Sadly, we lost Mr. Gordon at age 100 earlier last month, and with his passing, the world lost a uniquely colossal talent!

STREAM THE MIHMIVERSE
If you're like most people these days, you tend to stream your favorite TV shows and movies, particularly because it's way more convenient and you have access to them in more places! Did you know there are now several places to stream the entire Mihmiverse catalog?

From the movie that started it all, "The Monster of Phantom Lake," to its musical offshoot, "The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!," and "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Day the Earth Abruptly Almost Ended," everything you need to "visit" the denizens of Phantom Lake County is available for your streaming pleasure!

The ENTIRE filmography of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (including the recently-released "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Day the Earth Abruptly Almost Ended") is available through the Mihmiverse Vimeo VOD portal!

Every film is presented using the same ultra high-quality renders used for the official Blu-Ray releases and actually feeds video content to the Drive-in Monsters Roku channel. Most importantly, the Mihmiverse Vimeo VOD portal is the ONLY PLACE to legally own the films digitally!

Retro-style monster movies from the wild & weird imagination of cult filmmaker Christopher R. Mihm! From giant, rampaging spiders to alien invasions and bug-eyed horrors, the Drive-in Monsters channel includes the entire catalog of Mr. Mihm's films, exclusive extras, and long lost special features originally released on currently out-of-print physical media! Explore the worldwide underground cult phenomenon known as the "Mihmiverse" and enjoy the rebirth of the golden age of "drive-in cinema" with the Drive-in Monsters channel!

As of right now, the channel is free... but, that most likely will not last forever! So make sure to enjoy the Drive-in Monsters Roku channel while it's still completely free of charge!

Most of the films of the Mihmiverse are available on Amazon Video. Sadly, as Amazon continues to revise and rewrite its policies, they have downgraded the entire Mihmiverse catalog from "available with Prime" to rental only. Though this wasn't entirely unexpected—given the way the service has been slowly ridding itself of the films of Christopher R. Mihm—we CANNOT guarantee they will still be there on any given day! So, if Amazon is your preferred place to watch the Mihmiverse, enjoy it while it lasts!

NOTE: Amazon has barred writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (and MANY other independent filmmakers) from adding any new films to their service. As far as we have been able to figure out, the service is taking a more "curated" approach to its catalog and, unfortunately, does not have any more room for the cheesy goodness of the Mihmiverse! Therefore, if you're interested in watching the newest films of the Mihmiverse, we highly recommend checking out the Mihmiverse Roku channel, Drive-in Monsters!
